I have tried to locate an on-line site for Smith and Wesson revolver serial numbers/ production years. As I have noticed some of the board members are good at assigning production years to S&W's, I thought I'd ask here.
I have as follows:
Mod 14-3 #6K468xx (pinned,8 3/8 inch bbl) in .38 spl
Mod 19-5 #AUB490x in .357 mag, 6 inch bbl
Mod 27-2 #S309923 (pinned and recessed) in .357 mag, 8 3/8 inch bbl
Thank you for any information you could shed on the great revolvers!

I also did a web search, which led me right back to my favorite firearms board. Waddya know....
Can anyone date a S&W Model 19-3, Serial # 4K9972XX? TIA
It'd be nice if they'd just do the Ruger thing and put it online....

Well your model 19-3 was made in 1974
There are sometimes problems dating Smith & Wesson's because they used a system of making frames and serial numbering them before they were assembled into guns. So for example, within the 4K serial number block, running from 4K1 to 4K999,999 you will find models, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 48, 53, 66, 67, and 68 - all intermixed.
So far as I know, no one has been willing to go to the trouble of posting the year-by-year dates on a website. However you will find a lot of such information in a book: Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas. A new 3rd. edition is about to hit the market.
