Is anyone making a gated or "ported" conversion cylinder for a .44 1851 style (open top) revolver? The only ones I've found so far require the cylinder be removed for reloading unless it is a .36 cal. Cylinder removal on the 1851 navy looks time consuming unlike the 1858 Remington.

Neither Kirst or R&D make a cylinder for that gun. Sorry. :(

I would think that one for an 1860 Army would fit, as the 1851 Navy .44 take the rebated cylinder. Of course this isn't anything to try on a brass frame. At least you could check with the cylinder makers, and Cimarron Firearms is offering a 1860 Army Richards conversion in .45LC.

R&D makes a .45 cylinder for the 1860, but not a gated one. They were supposed to come out with one this past fall, but it never materialized.

They also keep chasing after that 5 shot design. I wish someone would make a gated conversion to 45 Long Colt that had a six shot capacity.

I understand that Cimarron Firearms is advertising the 1860 Richards conversion, and strongly suspect they will be showing it at the SHOT Show in January. Beyond that you'll have to check with them. It does have a ring and gate. Barrel length is 8 inches. It's made by Uberti.
