I have a problem. I bought a 10/22 Carbine a few hours ago, have already used up my Bass Pro rewards points on ammo and mags and I want more. I want a scope, bipod, sling and a new barrel. This thing is even more contagious than my Mosin:D

What you have my friend is gunitis. There is no cure, you can only treat the symptoms. Liberal applications of inhaled burned gunpowder aroma on a regular basis can ease the effects of gunitis.

I've heard of this disease. Unfortunetly, scientists have not yet found a cure and occasional flare-ups can cause relapses and new members in the gun cabinet.

This is so true. Gunitis is directly responsible for the overcrowded conditions in my gun safe as well as my ammo locker.

You are only getting started.

The factory barrel will surprise you. It is only when it heats up that accuracy will suffer. They don't shoot bad out of the box.

A scope will allow you to see better at range, but the iron sights are good practice and effective.

Before you swap the barrel, do something with the trigger. The stock trigger pull is way too heavy, so put an aftermarket one in it.(also think about a bolt buffer, ext. mag release while you are at it.)

After that, ask yourself what you are using it for. If you want to hunt with it, don't put a 10lb Thumbhole laminated wood silouhette stock on it.(bling, bling!) You have to be able to carry it. You can find a variety of stock/barrel combos available that will fit your needs. A synthetic stock/fluted barrel will hunt well, but will be a little more money.

The beauty of a 10/22 is that it is almost as modular as an AR. Have fun with it. Your rifle will evolve into the tool you need for the events you participate in. Who knows, you may find that you need another one!

Are there any good links out there that has info on the rifle. This rifle will be a combination paper pucher and squirrel rifle.

The beauty of the 10/22 is all the stuff that is available, and how easy it is to work on.

Volquartsen makes action parts, barrels, and rifles
Power Custom also makes a full range of parts
Clark Custom Guns has parts, barrels, rifles, does custom work
Butler Creek - barrels and stocks
Boyds - wood stocks
Fajen - wood, Synthetic Stocks
Hogue - Synthetic Stocks

Brownells and Midway both have a good selection of items

The stocks are interchangable, so the barrelled action can travel from a laminated wood stock to a light synthetic stock for field work.
