This is the gun my wife wants and I'm not sure if it exists, any help appreciated:
Blued S&W .38 Special +P standard spur hammer, 3 inch barrel with full or partial underlug.
Thanks for any tips.

Id check out the S&W website. They have many many revolvers and I believe that one is probably in the lineup.

It does not appear to be very common.

I checked S&W and nothing came up that fitted the profile.
I'm thinking the best would be a compromise probably involving a 3 inch .357 (or 2.5 inch Model 19 etc)

Look for a used 3" model 10 or 13. Fits criteria except barrel shroud. If she can be convinced to go stainless steel the 3" model 64 is still in production. Also stainless Lady Smith.

Newton, the M19 was made in a 3" bbl, but they are hard to come by. As others have noted, the M10 was also offered in a 3" bbl, but there is no underlug. Your other option would be to scour the dealers for a used, beat up finish, but mechanically sound M10, M15, etc. Then locate an M19 spare bbl. Send both to a good gunsmith who can cut the bbl and install it to 3" length.

The Colt Detective Special was also sold w/3" barrel. The new model has a full ejector shroud.

Get a Mdl. 60 3" with rubber grips. Start out with 38spl. and work up from there if she likes. It's not blue but more durable and easy to clean.

Hm. What is it with wives and 3" barreled revolvers?
First thing my wife said when she laid eyes on the 3" mod. 36 Smith I brought home was "I'll take it."

I think that women have an inate sense of balance and perspective, and 3 inch barrelled revolvers just seem "right" to them. Who am I to argue :D

You are talking about a 3" Model 36, not the most common verion of this model but definitely findable.

The only BLUE S&W with a full or partial shround on a 3" barrel was either cut by a gunsmith or one of a few runs that S&W has done.
There were a couple of runs of the Model 19 way back in the late 60s and early 70s most were with adjustable sights. There was a run of model 19s made for Peru with 3" barrel full shroud and fixed sights.
There are no Blue full lugged or shrouded J frames with fixed sights, S&W did make a small amount of Model 36s with 3" barrels, full lugs and adjustable sights and later remodel numbered them to the Model 50.
There are also some few 586s with 3" barrels but they are not quite as scarce as a model 19 3"
Almost all blue S&W 3" guns with a barrel lug or shroud are collector items and will run you some money.
Find a nice 3" Model 10 with a heavy barrel and do not worry about the lug. I have a 3" 13 in 357 that is a great gun.
