I have an Enfield No. 4 Mk 1* that I would like to remove the stock. It looks like decent wood but I wanna get all the cosmoline out and check for areas that might be rubbing on the barrel. I have the upper stock removed but can't seem to figure how to remove the lower part. Is it simple enough for one of you good people to describe or is there an online source (manual) for this info?

Remove the steel butplate. You'll find the stock has a hole drilled in it. At the bottom of that hole is a screw holding the stock to the receiver. You'll need a VERY long screw driver to reach it. I hope this helps.

You shouldn't need to remove the buttplate; just open the compartment for the cleaning kit. About 12" down in the stock it a big ol' screw. On top of it there may be a leather disk covering it. You might be able to shake it out, or might have to just dig through it with the screwdriver.

Good point about rnot having to removing the butplate. I'm sitting here at work when I think about removing a milsup from the stock, I'm normally completely tearing the gun down.

The hard part is the lower wood forward of the Stock ring. Remove all the bands and screws, then tap the wood forward toward the muzzle and pull it down. If you pull down from the muzzle end it can damage the wood up by the receiver.
