New Winchester M1 Carbine

I picked up a pretty little Winchester M1 Carbine at the Dayton, Oh gun show this weekend. It's a 1.222 mil from Sept. 1943.
Flat bolt, Winchester barrel, expertly refinished stock, good new park job. All the mechanicals are LN....this gun hasn't seen a whole lot of use.
It shot 3" @ 100 yards yesterday.
The improvements don't do much for the military purist in me, but this is a sweet, clean, accurate little gun that was love at first sight.
It has a re-import mark :( I've never heard of: EXEL Gardner, MA. Anybody have any info on them?

You might want to also post this question on the CSP 30 Carbine Forum. (http://www.jouster.com/cgi-bin/carbine/carbine.pl?)

Nice rifle. I think I'll have to get one.

I did, and only got one reply back.
At the time, there was a great fuss going on about a TV show forcing people to eat a horse's rectum. It seemed to have caused some distraction.
Some people get anal about anything.

I ran a search on Google about EXEL imports of Gardner, MA. Until 1987 they used to import Ugartechea (Italian) shotguns that look mighty fine. I think they might have folded their tents around then.
I'm wondering where this carbine's out-of-country service was. Maybe Europe, I hope.

Hey, DamnedDirtyApe!
Ya get me all excited and happy talking about your great aquisition of the M1, and then you have to bring up the image of "that show" my wife was watching last night while I was HERE:
But seriously, If you get 'bored' with the rifle, it can have a home with me!:banghead:

Lol... true dat! I wish they would update their forum style to vBulletin or something similar - it's hard to navigate their site.

Also true - some of us even get anal about websites.

Sven,
You’re right about CSP. They’d have a better chance of killing troll threads and off topic posts if they’d just update the software. The question comes up a lot on the M1 board, but the overwhelming opinion is registration on a website is equal to gun registration and must be fought with the same vigor. This will be their eventual death. Several knowledgeable M1 guys have moved on to other boards.

Thread Drift: "...the overwhelming opinion is registration on a website is equal to gun registration..."
Duh? I figure I'm in most every computer in WashDC, just from letters to Congressfolks and/or editors. And then there are the subscription lists to gunrags and outdoor magazines. This doesn't even take into account mail order reloading stuff or yellow sheets or tables at gunshows or...
