Which wheel gun???

OK,
So I'm in the market for a "wheelie". It wouldn't be a carry piece, but a nightstand/casual range piece which MIGHT do double duty as an IDPA piece (If I ever start IDPA). I just can't get used to S&W's new Keylock thing :cuss:, and Ruger's while tough as nails just aren't as "pleasing to the eye" to me :uhoh:....
So here's what I've found.....
S&W 27 (made in '87 so not pinned and recessed) in great shape, not even turn marks on the cylinder or anything. 4" for $359.
S&W 625 ('99 vintage, so no keylock) with about 300 rounds through it. The guy is asking $450.
The 27 is in a shop about 60+miles from me, and the 625 is in FL (considerably farther away from me) so I can't just "pop-in" to check out either one.
Which would you guys choose and WHY?
Thanks,
Rich

How long is the 625? If it's 4" or less, it'd be the winner for IDPA considerations, because of its moonclip feeding (and slightly bigger holes in the target). If IDPA weren't a factor, I'd jump on the .357, which is a much more versatile chambering for a revolver; really, amazingly versatile and fun to shoot in all its incarnations. Especially if you reload. If you don't reload, then it would also be cheaper than .45.

PS--I've got a couple S&Ws with locks, and one without, and they make absolutely no difference. I stick the key in the safe and forget about it.

Two of the best Smith revolvers, get both of them if you can. If only one, an almost impossible choice, but if it was me I'd go with the 625. My son has one and I can't think of any handgun that has been nicer to shoot.

I'll agree with Ron in PA -- get both. If the Model 27 is a 5 incher, I'd go for that one though if you can only afford one.
(BTW, Ron's other son has the Model 625. Not me. :( )

I'd buy the model 27: it's the more versatile of the two.

Posting this pic, yet again!! This one is pinned and recessed 5" .... M27-2 (circa 1977).... tho, even a later one ... would be my choice .... including 6" or 4" .... just lurv the ''N'' frames. :)

I'd vote for the 625 in 4 inch. That seems like a ok price. I have one that is a performance center that was purchased used for a bit more than yours. If it is a PC then jump on it with both legs and arms. My second choice would be a 686 in 4 inch...
Good Luck...:)
