Experiment in bead blasting, flamed my GP100. Not the best pic in the world but it'll have to do for now. Project started out in this thread, http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23375 then I took it a little further. Maybe too far??

So, I'm assuming the gun started out blued and you masked the flame area off and blasted the rest right? If so, what did you mask with, and what blast media were you using? Looks good.

The gun is stainless, I had earlier polished it going for the high shine look but didn't like it. Masked off the patern then blasted it.
I used masking tape but if I do it again I'll go with the wide vinyl electrical type stuff.
Media is glass beads but I don't know what grade (fineness) they are, used the blasting cabinet at my place of work.

I think it's a wonderful technique. And it should do quite well in the holster!

Truly cool and not over the top at all. I'm surprised something
like this isn't offered as a factory option by some manufacturer.

You can get sandblasting stencil material, which is heavier than the tape and will allow you a smoother cut if you're applying the stencil and then cutting the pattern directly on the piece. The sandblasting stencil also hold tightly, and won't come off during the sandblasting.

The flames have been extinguished. Buffed it out and put the stripe back.
I just wasn't satisfied with the way it looked. Not the flame concept itself but the lines weren't uniform and smooth. Tried cutting a new pattern out of vinyl tape instead of masking tape but still couldn't get them right. I'm picky about stuff like that, if It isn't just perfect it bothers me.
If penman could hook me up with the material he was talking about I might try it again.
Stay tuned, who knows what I'll try next! Got a Kimber I'm thinkng about sending off to Tripp Research for a hard chrome finish, think they could do flames??
Skunkabilly; that's some nice jewelry you're wearing there! :D

Skunkabilly; that's some nice jewelry you're wearing there! And such nicely womanicured nails as well. :D
Seriously Sisco, I think it looks pretty cool... slightly over the top, but pretty neat. You ought to send a picture of that to Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez... They might be looking for something just like that for From Dusk Till Dawn Part XIV. :p
