Will be in northern CA for a week in June, unarmed. of course:fire:

Is pepper spray legal, and where would be a good place to pick some up if it is? I'll be flying in to Oakland and will spend time in and out of the Bay area.

Thanks!

Yes, perfectly legal, buy all you want.

In Oakland, I'm sure there must be a place to pick some up. But in San Francisco I'm only sure of one place: Jackson Arms indoor range (http://www.jacksonarms.com/) - ok technically South San Francisco, but close enough.

Thanks for the info. Might not get down there, but at least I know it's legal to have.

Legal. There's actually some limits on the sale of "too big, assault cannisters" but even that isn't enforced much.

No carry limits at all. I think there's an age limit of 18 though.

For one year only, you actually had to get a shall-issue *permit* and were limited to only one approved cannister type. Sheesh. Musta been 15+ years ago.
