I'm thinking of selling my Browning Challenger II here. Any idea of the value for one in very good condition? Wood and bluing is excellent, magazine has an odd look to the finish. No box or manual.

$350 + or - based on Gunbroker.

I couldn't find any that actually sold on there, just some listed for the price you mentioned. I should say that mine has fixed sights. Maybe $300 OBO is a good starting point to actually move it.

Yeah, $300 would probably be a fair starting point.

If i'm not in a hurry to sell I'll usually try to start a little on the high side and bring the price down if i'm getting no nibbles.

Good luck,

Steve

I've been looking for an older Browning .22 target pistol and picked up a 1981 Challenger II today at a gun show for $285 after talking the seller down from $325. Appears to be in about the same condition as yours. Saw two others for $400 and $450, so I think I did OK.

Can someone give me a review on how well these shoot? Seems to have beautiful fit and finish, so I'd expect good accuracy out of it. Unfortunately I'm not too thrilled to learn that extra mags can be hard to find :(

These are nice accurate guns that are fun to shoot. However, they do need to be cleaned regularly after shooting as they are prone to poor ejection if they aren't kept clean. Not much different than a High Standard as I remember.

There is a guy who has parts for these, including new magazines. Here is the last contact info I have for him (from 2000):

Gary Chatham

At the time he had Triple-K magazines for about $30 each. I've also seen them on eBay at times.

Good luck!

Wow. Based on this conversation, I must have done pretty well on a Challenger III that I picked up today. $225 out the door. It wasn't in perfect condition, but it was real nice with only a few minor scratches here and there. It came with a lifetime warrantee from the gun shop too!
