planning on buying a "pimp gun". best choice for über shiney finish?

so, for some odd reason, I want to built/modify/whatever a 1911 for myself. and, lord knows why, i want it in über shiney, nickel/chrome/mirror type polish, with, of course, Ivory grips(if you're going over the top, may as well go all the way, eh?). but, usually being a fan of blued and/or parkerized ballistic conflict resolution devices, I'm not sure what would be the best finish. another thought was highly polished stainless, but I really don't know.

what finish would be the most mirror like? easiest one to keep that way?

Polished nickel pistol, titanium nitride accented parts, and find some mother of pearl grips for it.

Take a look at Arizona Response Systems (http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com/). They produce some interesting colors and textures (including African camoflage, burgundy - for wine lovers who want their guns to match! - and a bunch of other stuff. They post pictures of a bunch of guns they've done.

Yeah I heard Titanium Nitride looks like gold, but doesn't flake off like gold supposedly does. Never had a gun in either.

According to a famous World War Two General it's supposed to be a small handgun, nickel plated and have pearl grips. If you want the real thing ivory simply won't do. Poly-whatever is just out of the question.

That said, the general carried a six-shooter that was:
Engraved.
Silver plated.
Had carved ivory grips.

So now you'll have to decide between a "pimp special" or a "general officer's issue." Good luck.

PS: I suppose in this day and age polished stainless steel is acceptable and you don't have to worry about it pealing off.

that colt is pretty much what i'm talking about.. I want it in .45ACP, though. and, of course, pearl grips.. and i want a more or less traditional style 1911.. no extended this, rounded that, front cocking serrations, etc....

I would have to say this is one of the best examples.

You can buy the pearl grips. Not many guns will come from the factory with 'em. Last I checked, most companies don't market a "pimp edition". :p

As far as caliber, Colt will pretty much make anything for you. You just have to contact them. (1 800 962 COLT) I'd talk to someone in the Custom Shop first.

But look at it this way. Pimps like to be different and stand out. Having a 38 Super will make you stand out more than if you had a .45 ACP since they are not as common as they used to be. But as far as ammo goes, there are still plenty of factory loads available if thats what your thinking about.

IMO, high polished chrome, high polished gold accents (safety, slide stop, bushing, horn, hammer, trigger, sights) [brass if gold is too much, have never seen TiN in high polish only matte], fuzzy or leopard skin grips.

One of these days, I'll have a pimp gun. I couldn't care less of the caliber. Heck, I'd even take a .25! :D  ;)

Here is my suggestion:

Hard Chrome.

Nickel, stainless, and hard chrome will all look about the same on a mirror-polished gun. But hard chrome is alot, well, harder and will look nice & flashy alot longer. Stainless and nickel will wear alot faster, and nickel might go yellow on you.

You might want to consider two-tone too... mirror polish blue slide and mirror polish chrome frame.

If you want pimpiness it would be hard to top the gold 1911s in FACE OFF. But you'll need to get two and use a double small-of-the-back holster rig.

Practical question: don't ivory and mother-of-pearl grips tend to crack if the gun's actually shot much? Are they just for show and no go?

Only poor pimps have ivory grips. If you want to be a pillar of da hood pimp, you got to have pearl grips.

Ledbetter

Yeah, most ivory and mom-of-pearl grips are "presentation" grips not intended for shooting. They're veneers, you see.

I bought a pair of "Polymer ivory" grips from ajax for the colt officers pictured above. They looked like they had just been popped our of a plastic mold, so I sanded off all the sharpness and left longitudinal marks and a matte finish. Then I soaked them in coffee for a week. Now I've got them out in the sun to yellow.

They're starting to look more like ivory now. When I put them on, I'll post another picture. Have to get a new hat though. Gold tooth . . . .

longeyes- That's the point, pimps never shot their guns much at all. They don't want them to get all dirty you know.:D

My dealer had the super-shiney Colt .38 Super in stock. I was drawn to it instantly (until I saw the price tag).

Ledbetter: that's a nice Commander! BTW, I notice that the slats on your blinds have brown spots just like mine. :D
