CA wanted to ban all mail-order sales of ammo. As a C&R guy, this is horrible! So we all (here on THR and elsewhere) got together and mobbed Arnold Schwarzenegger's mailbox.

Here's what I got from the gubernator today:

Thank you for sending me your email opposing AB 2714. Hearing from my fellow Californians is very important to me as I work to improve our great state.

After extensive consideration and thorough deliberation from proponents and opponents of this issue, I have decided to veto this bill. Current law already requires sellers to verify the age of a purchaser who wishes to buy ammunition at the time of sale. AB 2714 could subject legitimate retailers to criminal penalties for actions that they have no control over. To see my veto message for this bill, please visit the Official California Legislative Information website at: www.leginfo.ca.gov.

Thank you again for writing to me. Your active participation in the democratic process will help ensure a brighter future for California.

Sincerely,

Arnold Schwarzenegger

YAY! I'm going to write every single time I'm asked to for pro-rkba from now on.

Thanks for posting. We write and call so frequently, but often see no results, or have to wait so long to hear about results, it is nice to actually see that a difference has been made somewhere.

Am I the only one who read the entire letter aloud in my best Arnie-impression?

My most sincere congratulations on a job well done.

As an old man (a grumpy, old, rural white male, of course) I learned a long time ago that in this country the only way to have an effect is to work within the system. You did. It worked. Keep on keeping on.

That's great and all...

...but I can't get over how cool it is to get an email from Arnold Schwarzenegger. :D

You must understand, it's not every day a movie star emails me.

Am I the only one to notice the gov't turning down an opportunity to pass what is, in effect, redundant laws? You mean they still read the laws before they're passed? I think there just might be hope yet.;)

Though it was good for him to veto, considering anything CA does "American" is false by default. :D

Well, it's refreshing that SOMEONE got a reply! I sent e-mails, "snail" letters and even called the Governor about AB2714....but got NO reply! Oh, well!

I was fearful that it would be noted that California would lose sales tax revenues on interstate mail order purchases, so I played up the revenues that would be lost by the legitimate businesses that transport mail order goods.

I still think that Arnie looks upon the legislators as being "Girly men", and too busy trying to tax the crap out of us while spending as much as they can.

NO more new laws! Just enforce the ones that are already in the books....and get RID of many of them that only hurt the citizens!

I got the email from Arnold too. I don't understand why we are getting it now when the bill got vetoed months ago. Is his office finally catching up on all the emails from the last legislative session?

Actually, if you lived in California, you'd get not just emails, but phone calls, from Arnold all the time: http://www.armedpolitesociety.com/index.php?topic=4919.msg74368;topicseen#msg74368
