In you surefire owners opinions, What is the best under 100$ surefire. It looks like its narrowed down to the G2 or 6P in my quick research. Any others I'm Missing? I'm looking for dependable, rugged, and bright as hell (I am a firefighter/EMT). Also, A clip would be another thing that had to be there. Best overall is what I'm looking for, I certainley understand there is pro's and con's to all things in life. Thanks

I have a 6P and use it every night when I walk the dog. It's saved us from a couple of close encounters with our slithery neighbors. One advantage of the G2 is it comes in three colors, so I'd look hard at getting two G2s in yellow--you could get them and a box of batteries and should have some change from your $100. Whatever model you decide on, I'd sure spend the extra $ and get one of the spare battery/lamp assembly carriers and fill it with spares.

6P is not bigger. It's the same light but with an aluminium body instead of a plastic one. The plastic G2 will survive ordinary knocks and bumps perfectly well but if you want to be really abusing it then the 6P might be better. The G2 is cheaper though, and comes in yellow. I'd say the 6P also has a better grip but if you're wearing gloves (I assume you will be as a firefighter?) it won't make any difference.

Neither the 6P nor the G2 have a pocket clip. I believe the cheapest 2 cell Surefire with a pocket clip is the E2. This has the same overall output as the G2/6P but its beam is smaller but brighter so it may or may not be better for you in that respect, depends what you want to do with it. It's slimmer and very slightly shorter, its made of tougher stuff and has a pocket clip, a lock out cap to disable itself and a momentary/constant on pressure/click switch on the tail, but it wears the batteries out quicker and might be difficult to hold with gloves on. It's $87 from lighthound.com.

Do you really need a pocket clip? As a firefighter I would have thought you'd have plenty of pouches and pockets on your jacket.

My reccomendation would be to get:

2x yellow Surefire G2s: $66
P61 lamp assembly (120 lumens for 20 minutes instead of 60 lumens for 60 minutes): $23
Surefire V20 holster: $12
10x cr123a batteries: $10

Total: $99

Then you can put the P61 lamp in one of the lights, leave the standard lamp in the other one. Now you can choose to use really bright with short battery life, or just plain bright with long battery life. Keep one in the holster for quick access, one loose in a pocket our pouch as a backup. You will also have a spare bulb left over, should one break. Having two lights means you will always have illumination, even if one breaks or runs out of power.

Surefire 6P is hard to beat. The G2 is nice but not quite as sturdy.

The G2 is a very tough flashlight and one of the best deals out there. A friend of mine had his G2 run over by a firetruck. Nothing but a small scratch, he swears by them.

thanks for the report fosbery. I am a firefighter AND an EMT, thus I need a light that can clip to my duty belt or in a pocket (along with the gloves and my ken onion leek already there). When im on the ambulance its practically street clothes. What are peoples opinions of the E2 and its comparison to the 6P/G2?

I have a G2 and a dozen batteries. Got it a few years ago. It is only on its second set of batteries. Great light.

Joking aside I'm thinking of getting a 6P with upgraded lamp myself, just in case....

You're talking about the difference between a metal tube and a very tough polymer body. I've had both and I can honestly say that the G2 still looks like new while the 6P was looking pretty worn after EDC with keys. The 6P has a type II annodize, like a mini-mag.

Carrying an E1e in Iraq currently. It's the single cell version of the E2. It's impressively bright for single cell, which I worried about since I previously carried either a 6P or Streamlight NightCom, both 2 cell lights. In your situation I think the E2 is a great idea. The increased output cpability of the 2nd battery (compared to the E1e I carry) is good, and the slim profile would be a huge benefit for pocket carry compared to the G2 or 6P. The clip is solid as well. My light does have the optional Mil Spec hard anodized finish, which is tougher than what's on my 6P. It's showing signs of wear, but is still holding up better than I tought it would.

I use an E1E.Small enough to carry a a pants pocket yet brighter than a 3 cell mag lite.Great little lite,puts all other small flashlites I've owned to shame.maybe I should buy another....

I have an Aviator A2 or something like that, it's about $175, kind of cool LED's and a main light that's bright, haveing said that... I have 2 G2's.

One of my G2's has survived 2 Iraq Deployments, it swims in the ocean & in the pool, it's been drug around by it's home made lanyard. I keep it in the front pocket of my drop holster for my M9 and it gets banged into everything. It's been painted 3 different colors, the black is starting to come back again though. For $35 it's one tough little bugger and I think they carry a life time warranty too, but don't quote me on that.

I also have a pelican, but it's more the wifes than mine, seems like an OK light.

I had a P600 or P900 or something like that issued, a weapons mounted light, that thing was tough too, you wouldn't believe how many walls I banged it into.

As far as batteries, well... I get them for free, so I can't really help you there, never even looked for them

I have one of those $20 Brinkmanns and the Surefire G2, and I must respectfully disagree they're the same.

The Brinkmann is a nice light for the money and has a niche, but the G2 is built better and works better. The Brinkmann is $15-$20 cheaper however, and might make a lot more sense for some applications.

For what it's worth, the Brinkmann Maxfire that you're referring to can take the same P60/P61 Lamp assembly that the Surefire G2/P6/etc can.

Unfortunatley LA police gear just cancelled my order for the E2W with free shippin for 57$. Anyone else have suggesstions or know of good deals online, besides ebay, for E2E's, 6p's, or G2', possibly a C3 as well. Thanks guys, much help is needed and appreciated
