As reported on MSNBC:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16464157/

"The voters are upset with Congress and the partisan gridlock," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. "The voters want a government that focuses on their needs. The voters want change. Together, we must deliver that change."

As one of the voters Harry Reid refers to, I can say that I want a government that upholds the Constitution of The United States (in its original intent), exercises only the power entrusted by the citizens of this country, and leaves us free to pursue life, liberty, and happiness without. It is not the place of government to focus on my needs, especially when I'm quite confident they have no idea what my needs are.

Yeah, but then the religious right couldn't use the government to deny rights to minorities

If you think Reid will do anything besides what Reid wants to do you're sadly mistaken. He's a real man of the people, that one.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but what "rights" have the religious right denied to minorities?

I'm a Christian and fall somewhere between Republican and Libertarian politically. I'm not overly impressed with the religous right, but would love to hear what you have to say.
