Your best bet may be eBay and a hacksaw.

"Well, officer, he came in here swinging that knife around, so I gave him three and one half inches of buckshot... I don't know where the rest of him landed, but you see the stumps right there by the door..."

:what:

18" (make it 18.5" to be on the safe side) measured from the breech face, unless you want to register your shotgun as a short-barreled shotgun first.

You can get 24" barrels either rifled or cylinder bored direct from Mossberg. They list at $130. FWIW, I got one off one of the auction sites for $75.

see them on this page. (http://www.mossberg.com/products/access.asp?type=barrels&section=access)

I haven't seen one any shorter. Not saying you can't cut down a 24" cylinder bore barrel.

An 835 is overbored.

Does it have a lengthened forcing cone?

If so, how long is it, and how might this affect your choice of barrel length?

Some questions to ask.

The "Accumag" barrels are overbored. The 24" cyl barrel is listed as a slug barrel. That says to me that it's not overbored.

I know someone who has a factory 18" barrel. He told me that it was very hard to find and took a lot of persistence. Good luck.

And for the record, he isn't interested in selling his. ;)
