In search of a true custom holster maker for a completely custom application

January 4, 2007, 05:36 PM
I have an HK USP variant 2 with a TLR-2 weapon light and GG&G adapter. I have one holster for it which is a production blade tech holster made specifically to fit this combo, and it is great. However at times I need something a bit more easily concealed and I am looking for a both an OWB and shoulder rig. I would prefer if someone could design a shoulder holster to go with my existing galco rib that I use with the USP when no tac light is attached, but I am willing to pay for a whole rig if need be.

Streamlight has TLR-2 molds that they are happy to shipping to holster makers and I believe there is only on adapter being produced for the USP which works with this model which I am willing to furnish to the holster maker if they do not have one.

I have contacted many great holster companies, but no one seems to be able to work with me on this request, especially for the shoulder holster or rig. Can anyone give me some names of guys that do true custom work for unique applications like mine?

BTW, this is my setup, sorry for the poor photos, it was taken on a camera phone a while back.

Well so far I have contacted every major and small custom holster maker I can think of an no one will do it...there has to be someone who does true custom work...all of these supposed "custom" holster makers keep telling me I need to find someone who makes custom holsters to meet my needs. I only emailed people who state they make custom holsters! Here is a copy of my letter, if any holster maker that reads this thread thinks they can do it PM me please!

To Whom It May Concern:

I work in the protection and investigation sector and need a shoulder holster or full shoulder rig for my HK USP with TLR-2 tac light setup. Your Company's name was given to me via a shooting forum, when I asked about a holster company capable of producing a custom rig of this nature. The HK USP is a full size, left hand model (variant 2) with the safety on the right hand side of the weapon. The tac light is made by Streamlight and they are currently sending out molds by request for the light. I currently wear a Galco Miamia Classic II shoulder rig and would like a holster that could either be worn with that rig, or an entire new shoulder rig with a configuration. The HK USP has a non-standard rail and requires a GG&G adapter for most rail accessories including this one. I have an extra adapter which I would be willing to send in order to help you mold the holster to the correct measurements. Other than the adapter everything else is completely standard on the weapon and tac light. Currently Blade-Tech makes a standard belt holster for this setup, but no one I know of produces a shoulder rig that will work Does this sound like a request you are able to fulfill, and if not can you recommend someone else?

Here is a link to streamlight's website with info on the TLR-2, there customer service dept, can give details on measurements and available molds:

Please contact me as soon as possible via phone or email.

Attached is a photo of the gun and current blade tech holster which are included as links in the original letter.

I took a card from a guy I met at a gun show several months ago. I have no idea if he could help you out, but he seemed to have some very nice leather at fairly reasonable prices. Not a recommendation, just throwing another name out there for you to check in with.

If you can wait, he'll make you the best holster you want.

You probably can't wait 1 year though hehe.

Mark Miller at Mach II Tactical can do it in Kydex.

He will probably want the gun and light and all of that to use as a template, but when it comes back it will be a holster that works.

I found 3 holster makers that can do it, 2 in kydex and one in leather. I am leaning towards the kydex for this application. Blade-Tech, may be able to do it in a few months, but the most promising is Survival Sheath Systems which was recommended by blackwater.

It will look something like this with a few different options and in black if I go with him.

I could do it. There's only about three holsters in the works, and I could have it finished by May. I would order a "blue gun" or a cast plastic/aluminum training gun that I would use to mold the holster, and you would give me detailed dimensions of your light which I would use to construct a model. Then I could make whatever holster you like.

This is just my hobby though, I'm a grad student/teacher/researcher by profession, and when it gets busy I put aside the holster making for a while. May is a good guess, since after the semester is over, I can buckle down and finish whatever is left. I use the money to pay for leather to make my own and my wife's carry holsters.
