In the current paper edition of the Natchez catalogue they carry some ammo by the brand name "American Ammunition". Does anyone have any experience with this stuff? Is is accurate? How dirty is it? Does it function well in most guns?

This stuff is cheap (no caliber over $10, .38s for under $7, .45acps under $8) and I would like some cheap ammo for my .380 and my .45 (I am starting to learn to reload for revolvers, but I'd rather buy cheap practice ammo for my autos than chase brass around). How does it compare to the other cheap brands? How about the better bargain brands (S&B, Winchester White Box)?

Is it Federal "American Eagle" in the red boxes? Thats decent stuff but there is a brand around (A-merc?) with a similar name that is real bad stuff.

American Ammunition has been responsible for many gun blow-ups.

This is what happened to a Glock 21 recently firing new .45 ACP American Ammunition.

American Ammunition (Miami, Florida) and Glock 21 Failure
Front Sight recently witnessed damage to a Glock 21 .45 ACP using factory new, American Ammunition manufactured in Miami, Florida. We also received a report from another Front Sight student that had the same experience with a Glock 22 .40SW using the same ammunition manufacturer. In both cases the students suffered bruising on their hands and some minor lacerations. In both cases, the failures occurred after a few hundred rounds of ammunition fired.

Shooting Buddy gave me most of a box of American Ammo in 45ACP. Wouldn't function in his Taurus (PT 145?), barely functioned in my Ruger KP-90. Inconsistant recoil/flash/sound. Some brass barely cleared the ejection port, some slammed hard into the lane partitions.

The red-boxed American Eagle made by Federal is good ammo, the [ahem] ammo sold by American Ammo of Miami (?) FL cannot even be politely described as junk. Properly describing A-Amerc ammo would get me permanently removed from this site.

Wow, I'm so glad I posted this. I almost didn't, figuring "it's cheap, what can go wrong. At worst it will be inaccurate or unreliable". Hmm, squib loads to rounds that blow up guns.:what: Sounds pretty inconsistent:rolleyes: . I guess I'll stay away from this stuff. It sounds like even Wolf ammo is better.

I guess for cheap stuff I'll stick with brands like American Eagle (Federal), Federal Classic, Winchester White Box, Magtec (though I haven't yet tried this Brazillian stuff), S&B, etc. I wonder if it is time yet for another "what is the best cheap ammo" thread yet.:evil:

Nothing that has been said is a lie! This stuff is beyond bad. It makes Wollf look like super premium ammo. I would shoot Wollf over this stuff ANY day. Wollf is bad but this "American Ammo" is badder.:D

Someone should sue them for dragging the good name of America into their sick world of crap ammo. It is without qustion, the WORST ammo I have EVER used.

How do you get such uneven charges? The are measuring the power right?:rolleyes: I had some rounds not work the slide and others that felt more powerful than standard ammo. It is NOT jacketed like it seems to be at first glance, it is "copper washed" lead. Just lead with a thin coating of copper. Not enough to stop lead fouling, just enough to get stuck in the bbl. It is also extremly bad in terms of accuracy.

I hope this company goes out of business. They are a danger to shooters everywhere. I can only wince at the thought of someone buying a box of it for self defense. I'm sure it has happened because it is so cheap.
