I just ordered my first handgun.

Last night I ordered a pistol from Bud's. It is a Ruger P95PR15. That is a 9mm, blued, 15+1, polymer frame DA/SA pistol with an accessory rail, exposed hammer, and a manual safety (instead of the decocker). It comes in a plastic case with two 15 round magazines.

The condition is listed as "Factory new." In the description below the picture of it, they say "New in box."

I think I'll be ok. It was $352.xx for it and a Hogue slip-on grip after shipping and them adding the 3% charge for using a credit card. I have spoken to a local dealer that is charging me another $20 for a transfer fee. So, I'll have a reliable, new gun with comfortable grips for $372.xx.

The P95 barely beat out the Taurus 24/7 Pro 9mm, with me anyways. It won because I didn't really read anything bad about the Ruger, but lots of magazine problems were reported with the Taurus.

That's not bad. Hopefully it won't take too long to get it. Kentucky to Alabama isn't that far anyway.

That P95 will do ya good.

My first autoloader was a P85 Ruger (discontinued now.) It never game me a lick of trouble. There's no shortage of folks to tell you how poor Ruger's autos are, but 95% is just brand loyalty & such. I had a ton more trouble out of a FAR more popular 9mm handgun that I regrettably sold the Ruger for.

I think you've made a good choice. Although I've never owned one personally, I have recommended the P95 to others as a first and affordable 9mm many times over. To my knowledge, those that have heeded my advice were not unhappy. While not so much as the P345 when compared to a P90/97, the P95 has much improved ergonomics over previous ruger models. They are still a bit bulky, but the things are built like tanks.
I do think you paid a bit much for it though. Are there no local shops, or even chain stores that sell handguns in your area ? If so, this is a gun that certainly should have been readily available, and you probably would have spent somewhat less. Don't sweat it though, just enjoy your first handgun, and safely !
Oh and BTW , your link doesn't work , here's the proper link

I checked at 3 places. The prices were ridiculous! I couldn't get a P95 for less than $379. That would be $409.32 after tax. The grip locally would have been another $10 or $12 on top of that.

One shop did have their blued P95's at $339 before Christmas, but they have went back up in price. Unfortunately, I didn't have the cash then. The other day, I told them that I would pay $350, but they wouldn't take it. So, I just said "f___ it" and ordered one. I was tired of dickin' around and didn't want to pay what they wanted.

That's the P95 with a decocker/safety. You've made an outstanding choice.

Don't sweat the extra money you spent. You've got yourself a good gun that will last you forever and is totally reliable. Congrats on your first handgun purchase! It probably won't be your last. Once you've been bitten by the bug....

i bought one of the sam models a while back but it was the ss model. i really liked it and it was a fine pistol. the only reason i got rid of it was because it was da/sa and for some reason i can not get to like that type of action but they are great weapons, and full of value. plus they look 10 times better than the older models. congrats, and please tell us how it does for you!

Not a bad choice at all. of course you'll be buying more guns in bigger and better Cal's but that should do just fine for a very long time if not a lifetime enjoy:)

Welcome to the Ruger fan club. Have two P95DCs and have had nothing but sterling service so far. Enjoy the pistol. Should last for a long time. There is the www.rugerforum.com if you want another forum or source about your P95.
