1st time at SHOT. Any tips?

I'll be at SHOT for the first time next week. I'll have media credentials, so I'll have access to the press room and be able to take pics.

I've got some questions:

I've heard that I should bring something to carry all the literature and handouts in as I cruise the show. Would a small piece of wheeled luggage work, or should I use a backpack? Or is that not really needed?

Can I bring in any of my own food or drinks? Or do I have to buy that on-site only?

Any other suggestions?

Yup, a decent rolling "fold-a-cart" will be very handy as will a good pair of shoes.

It is really needed. You will not believe just how needed it is until you get there.

Bring something with wheels. You'll regret that backpack.

In Las Vegas, bringing in food & drinks was fine. Not sure about the venue in Orlando.

Any other suggestions?

Good shoes.

Comfortable shoes.

The absolute most comfortable pair of shoes you own.

Did I mention you will need good shoes?

;)

Have fun!

This will also me my first SHOT show as well. I am really looking forward to seeing all the wonderful new toys they have, especially the .223 Taurus revolver (if it is there). This may be a stupid but, do they also sell guns there or do they just showcase the new items?

Also, I had a friend that said late Sunday afternoon was a great time to be there as venders sell off stuff (like pocket knives) real cheap just so they don't have to pack it up and take it back with them. Is this true?

You can buy guns at the SHOT Show... if you are a distributor or big dealer and want to make a substantial order with a manufacturer, importer, or jobber. If you are like me, Joe Tourist going in on his FFL's letterhead for fun, no. I don't know about the small dealer, he can probably place orders, too.

They do sell off odds and ends of display products on Sunday. I have a pocket knife and Camelback from that. No guns. The display guns don't even have firing pins and some are toolroom models not even heat treated. Doesn't keep several from getting stolen every year, though.

There are many companies who will be doing half their year's business at SHOT. Us tourists should stay out of the way of people there to make a living. You can still see and learn a lot.

You can't take delivery of guns. If you have a FFL you can order and have them shipped to you.
The Sunday thing is true with some vendors. Last year the 5.11 booth was selling pants for $20 on Sunday. I bought several.

Is this true?As Gary said, a few, but not many. BTW, I have dibs on 5.11 gear this year. I totally missed it last year. It's my turn!!!!!

It is a trade show, not a gun show.

Thanks for the tips guys. It is appreciated.

I'm also starting a new thread asking if anyone is interested in meeting for dinner on *Thursday* night as well.

So, I understand one needs an FFL to get into the show. Is an 03 Curio & Relic FFL good enough?

A C&R is one avenue to get in. That's the road I took.

Can't wait for next year.
