1911 S.A. 9mm - Trade It or Fix It?

Of the three pistols I have (Kimber Custom II :) , XD45 :) and this one:mad: ) the Springer has the poorest accuracy. I'm glad it came with an adjustable sight. The rear is all the way left and the pistol still shoots 2" to the right at 25 feet. BTW, don't ask it to group! :cuss:
I've been reading the threads to determine how to fix it or what to do. My guesses are:
a new barrel bushing needs to be fitted to the slide and barrel (it is very easy to remove)
the slide tightened (horizontal and 0.016" vertical play)
the top barrel lugs need to fit better
Do I send it to a gunsmith so he can shoot it and diagnose its problems to let me know what it will cost to get it accurate? Or do I trade it for a 9mm Kimber, XD9 Tactical other piece of fun hardware?

For $20 you install a match EGW angle-bored bushing and the see where you're at. Slide play is usually not that big a factor in accuracy...barrel lockup at the rear and bushing fit at the front - the bushing is cheap to experiment with.
Measure your barrel and the slide then call EGW and ask for an angle bored tight fit.

Fitting a "no gunsmithing required" bushing might not be what fixes the ill. It might be a combination of problems that fixing only one of will make the situation worse down the road.
If it were my gun I would take or send it to a qualified gunsmith who could correct the problem.
We see guns like this everyday. Usually it's something minor that can be corrected very cheaply.

Won't S.A. fix it? Call them and ask them what it might run or if it has any warranty left.

I appreciate the feedback. The 9mm 1911 SA, the Kimber Royal and I went to the range today for some testing. I took 147gr subsonic match ammo (FMJ Flat Point) and 115 WWB ammo and some 45acp ammo.
After blasting at some targets some conclusions:
The 147gr ammo was superior to the 115gr WWB. Nice 2"groups at 25 feet with the match ammo vs. 4-6" with the WWB. Do 1911s *like* FP ammo better than RN?
The SA is an acceptable 25 foot gun but it is NOT and 25 yard gun.
The Kimber shoots as well offhand as the SA from a rest.
Ammo was causing the grouping issue. But, the rear sight is at the stop to make it shoot POA. That still bugs me. How can this be corrected?
