In the midway catalog on new brass, there is the note that reads - bulk brass should be full-length sized, trimmed and camfered before using. - While I plan to size and expand it before loading, is the -trimmed and camfered- statement just for rifle brass or .45 as well?

Just a comment: After reading one thread on case heads blowing off of reloads I plan to retire some of my brass.

Bulk brass can sometimes get pretty beat up in handling before it reaches you. I've bought some that had case mouths all battered up to the point they looked like they had been stepped on. When they just bag them and throw them around, it's rough on the brass.

I size, trim and chamfer all new rifle brass, just to make it uniform. For pistol brass, I just size and prime it before loading it. Pistol brass can also get pretty beat up in it's travels, so it's best to size it first. It also comes out of several different forming dies, in most cases, and there can be variances in diameter. Running it through one sizing die can eliminate a lot of that concern.

If you're buying new .45 acp brass, I would check out Scharch. He makes some of the most uniform pistol brass on the market, with primer pockets and flash holes the way they should be made. His prices are also competitive and he pays shipping for orders over $70.00. You can find him at www.scharch.com.

Hope this helps.

on pistol brass I mike about 10 per cent of the bag, just to get an idea of how uniform they are re: oal.Very often they're not very close....+-.010.
If this is the case I size then trim them just to know they started out life 'the right way'.

New brass or once fired brass. It's all the same to me. Tumble, resize, measure, trim if needed.:)

9mmX19 and .45 ACP brass (you're correct P0832177) I don't debur/camfer, unless I have trimmed them to get a uniform starting length. After that...No. Just rifle cases (new or once fired)

I have never ever trimmed 45ACP brass. I never will chamfer or deburr either. I have been loading 45acp a long time, and I have to say that I just run all brass through the sizer die. Now, rifle brass is a whole different banana.

Thanks for the advise. This is a first time buying new brass so I guess I'll measure it for accuracy and size it. Thanks

Depends on what specific brass ya get. Would certainly check the case mouths to see if they need the burr removed. Have bought bulk Win 45 acp in past that needed sizing, trimming and case mouth cahmfering. Starline is good bet for uniform 45 acp brass that doesn't need trimming or case mouth deburring.

Really depends on what ya get.
