I was always under the impression that 22lr was able to be fired from revolvers chambered in 22 mag and was told they were not compatable the other day. Is this true?

You can probably get away with FIRING them, but the case diameter on the 22 Mag is larger than that on the 22 LR, so you'll get lots of case splits, and crappy accuracy to boot, not to mention all of the crap spewing out of every crevice on the revolver.

FWIW, a 22 mag holds the bullet inside the case, and as such the case is larger than the bullet (diameter)

The 22 LR bullet has a 'heel' that is smaller than the bullet diameter and that is what is inside the case.

IOW the 22Lr case is smaller in diameter than is the 22 Mag, and should not be fired in a 22 mag weapon.

Many .22WMR revolvers have conversion cylinders available. Buy one of those, and you can shoot .22LR out of your revo all day long with no problems.

Ruger does their Single Six in .22 LR with a .22 Mag cylinder.

The barrel doesn't care, since the projectile is the same diameter.

The two cylinders are chamber-sized appropriately, each for the given cartridge case.

The .22LR and .22WRM are not like the .38 Special and .357 Magnum. Unlike the .38/.357, they don't use the same basic shell case.

Most .22 LR cartridges are .223" in diameter.

WMR and WRF cartridges are .224" in diameter.

Lapua offers target .22LRs in both .223 and .224.
Convertible revolvers with both cylinders have a bore size of .224 to accomodate both LR and WMR cartridges. Some people have questioned the accuracy of convertible cylinder revolvers using .22Lr cartridges in the slightly oversize barrel.

crazy attempts to load .22 lr in .22 mag and even crazier attempts to "reload" .22 mag with more powder.the impression i get is simply u guys out there want high performance ammo thats y u do it!
i have currently patented a .22 lr jacketed bullet yep real copper metal not plating.results r xcellent everything is unreal in performance.it is like a center-rifle in the achievements.
the big but...
our fellow manufacturers are too slow to start the manufacturing process running.the problem is lack of communication to the heads of the companies, and the engineers are scared of redicule so they are reluctant to take it further perhaps because the first response would be ...we pay u to design but y has someone else got it rite?????

never mind these problems they will be addressed shortly but until then hold thumbs as usa is gonna rock with good ammo soon.more will be on a web-site once things start moving.
really thats wat a manufacturer like me has to do to get u guys happy, and no support from the people whom u support???...aniway ....soon

22fmj - a word of advice (maybe two). Learn how to type, learn how to spell.
It's awfully hard to follow a sentence made up of single-letter words (when you're used to three or four). Your message is coming across not at all.

um, this may not help at all, but I shoot .22 lr in my mag rifle from time to time. It offers a highly suppressed report and is fun at night or sneaking around plinking things. A .22 short is less than an air rifle but about the same in power (and accuracy :(

No they are not.

" have currently patented a .22 lr jacketed bullet yep real copper metal not plating."

You know, .22 rimfire bullets are not plated, they're copper washed - tumbled in copper more or less. I'd like to see your jacketed rimfire bullets. Got a pic?

Hopefully your "patent" is typed up more professionally (by your attorney?) than the format and punctuation we see in your numero uno post here at THR. ;)

Care to provide the patent number so we can look it up and check out details ? Of particular interest (if you are indeed an inventor ... yea I'm suspecting B.S) will be the section on how yours is distinguished from "prior art" ...

Back to the topic.

Do not fire .22lr cartridges in a .22mag firearm. They are not interchangeable. If damage to your firearm or injury to yourself occurs, then there will be only one place to lay the blame...

The round will fire (in a revolver), but the case will split. The reverse is not true, i.e., the magnum will not even go into a Long Rifle chamber due to its larger case diameter. Short of a highly improbable doomsday scenario - wherein the zombie hordes are overrunning your position and you are down to just your .22 revolver with its .22 Mag. cylinder but only .22 LR ammo - you should never fire the wrong ammunition in any firearm.

As for FMJ jacketed .22 Mag ammo, I have a selection of Winchester, Federal, and CCI .22 WMR ammo that is jacketed, NOT "washed"... and is in FMJ and Hollow Point styles...

gosh guys i really did not expect to be hammered but thank you very much!i appologise for bad grammer and spelling i think it is sheer excitement of the day!

my lawers are really having a ball with my cheque book as you have gathered.
the project of jacketed .22 lr bullets is a topic that will be discusses at the shot-show 2007 by some senior engineers at the show.i will only after their advise beable to start the web-site.

regarding the "b.s." factor expressed by some fellow members, i do understand your sentiments .

i would have put product on the market but i am from africa and our rim-fire plant here closed its doors in december 2005.i thus have to rely on the usa manufacturers to assist in this regard.they are looking at it but it is a very slow process.

i will do my best to get things going !
on a better note...i must thank you all for your input . this site really is good no b.s
