To all:

I have decided (in my slightly advanced age) to return to college and finish my education. I need some research help from any and all.

My final thesis for a composition class will be an argumentative essay on gun control (naturally--what else?:) ) My first essay was a process essay, and I used it for basic firearms safety. It was a 14 page masterpiece (if I do say so myself) and was well received.

What I would like is (are):

1. Sources of verifiable information concerning the prevention of criminal activity with firearms.

2. Sources of verifiable, credible information concerning the research methods (if applicable) of groups like HCI, CDC, et al,
in declaring their firearm statistics.

3. Sources of information and statistics concerning crime in the United States, the differences in violent crime rates (Level 1) between States in conjunction with firearm laws.

4. Any and everything else that you (and all of you) can think of that would be beneficial in this project.

Despite CDC's politcal motives on guns during the Clinton years, its injury data at www.cdc.gov/ncipc/wisqars is good. The Wisqars data engine provides just the numbers without, ahem, "analysis." Play around with it for awhile -- it can do a lot.

You need access to the CDC numbers as they are used by the antis. For example, these are the numbers used in the bogus factoid of "X children a day." With Wisqars, you can break them down by each age (age 1, age 2, ect.) to show how many of those X children are 18 or 19 years old each -- the paper version of CDC's data only breaks it down in 4-year blocks
