I currently have a Springfield xd 9, and a Taurus M85 .38 snubby. I've been wanting a springfield A1 .45 for a long time, but the more I've been reading up on the 10mm, the more I am wanting one!! I plan to use it as a house/range gun.
Out of these two; Springer .45 /// EAA Witness 10mm, Which would you go for and why?

Also, what are some advantages of the 10 over the .45?

Definitely, get the Springer- and you will NEVER look back~!;) :D
Why? Its as close too the original WW-II G.I. gun, as commerically
available on dealer's shevles. The stainless steel version is very
hard too get; and highly sought after by consumers. I have two
(one parkerized, the other stainless steel) myself. Another reason,
once you learn "too hit" with the tiny military type sights; you will
be able to shoot any handgun that anybody throws at you~!
FWIW, I had a very good customer come into our shop last week
wanting too sell his NIB .45 ACP Witness. Nice weapon, with box
and docs; but the boss only gave him $250 for it~!

I would have said go for the Witness, as I have one myself, but I have an Elite Match. The standard model won't be as well-finished.
I also would suggest you step up from the Mil-Spec to the least expensive "Loaded" model you can find... it'll be worth the extra $150.

Both are great guns but anyone deciding between the two should go with a 1911. EA's and CZ's (very similar) feel GREAT in my hand and shoot well to boot, but everyone who enjoys handguns should have at least one 1911 once in there life.
Besides, you can go to Wally World and purchase a 100 count value pack of WWB (Winchester White Box) FMJ's for $22.
I have a 1911 but some type of CZ 75 is on the want list

I would go the 1911 route, but not Springfield. Around here I see the GIs anywhere from $519-$550. For an extra $50 I have one of the new STI Spartans reserved when they come in. More options, better fit and finish according to the STI rep I talked to as well as people who already own them, and I will be able to say I have an STI! Yes the frame, slide and barrel are made by Armscor but who makes the Springfield frames and slides, aren't they foreign made too?

I’d have to go with the Witness.
I already have the Springfield.

The Witness for me, the Elite Match runs $429, and there is not a more accurate gun anywhere near the price. You get a very well finished pistol, good sights, excellent trigger and need do nothing else to have a really good range/home pistol. Mines in .40 but they are available in 10mm also.

I also have a Witness PS in 9mm, they are not as nicely finished but are pretty accurate and mine has been reliable over the past 9 years. They are also $100 cheaper than the Match.

Flip a coin.
(of course if it were me I would go with the EAA because you never know when they're going to cease being imported.)

I really like both of these, but I voted for the springfield because you do not have a 1911 or a 45. If you had one or the other, I would say go for the 10, but you need a 45 in your collection.

boy, Ala Dan, that's the truth! I've already gotten spoiled with the three-dot fixed night sights on my parkerized Loaded.
My advice? Flip a coin, and whichever gun loses the toss, get it after you get the other one. :D

Both guns are good choices, but I would go with the EEA Witness primarily because 10mm are getting harder and harder to find and they are a great round. Wish I had picked one up years ago.

i handled my first Witness just a few days ago . my buddy has one of the compacts in 9mm and just put the CZ rubber grips on it..that gun has got to be one of the best feeling guns to handled ive ever had my hands own..but 10mm isnt cheap to shoot..id take the Springfield since everyone should own a 1911 and springfield has always been my choice with kimber right behind

you will have to spend too much time on a springer replacing sites and safeties to get anywhere near what you will get out of box on the witness.
I love 1911's I just don't like A1's. And something made in italy will tend to be better than something made in brazil.

I voted for the Springfield, but really I don't want either.
I had a Springfield Mil Spec but it was a jam-0-matic and Springfield Armory could not fix it when I sent it back to them.
I voted for the Springfield because it will be easier to re-sell when you decide you don't want it any more.
