I have not had good luck with a BSA red dot I bought about three years ago. It broke after a few weeks. But, it was about a third what a good one costs. Some guys I shoot with have them and they held up on their guns. Wally's is good place to buy because there's no problem returning it, if you don't scratch it up. I think the dot size is a little too big for an accurate .22 gun.
For more money look into Millett, Leupold, or Ultradot. Usually the first thing to go is the reostat that controls the brightness.

I have a 42mm and haven't had any problems with it. For the money, you cannot go wrong.

Agree with E357--the dot's a bit too big, at 5 MOA, for a .22 rifle. If it's a handgun, and you're not shooting really precise target stuff, prolly fine. I took mine off my 10/22 in favor of a 4x scope, which comes a bit closer to the kind of precision you'll want with a 22 rifle, IMHO.

Have a 30mm on my S&W 422 pistol. Works great. Accuracy out to 50 yards.
