H&K USP Compact 9mm - Wow...

I finally went ahead and picked up one from a local shop that was on consignment. I almost got a .45 instead, but the 9 came in the original box w/extra mag & manual. It's a 1998-marked weapon, V1 trigger, and excellent plus condition. It's not unfired but very close to it I'd say, and it was a steal of a deal, like buying a new gun except for the significant price difference.

I'd been considering the purchase for a few months and the more I read about the pistol and its function the more I thought that I'd be interested in it. I almost went with a Sig 226 that I'd found, but the H&K was too good a deal to pass up. It fits my hands fairly well, although truth be told I haven't found too many guns that don't. I like the less agressive texture on the side of the grips, and the grip angle is decent. It feels a bit more blocky and more like a tool than a 1911, kind of like a Glock feels to me, and I like the size for concealment and IDPA.

So, now I have a pistol that I can shoot in two IDPA categories, that has every possible trigger function (SA cocked & locked, DA/SA safety on, DA/SA safety off) and has a respectable mag capacity of 13. (No 9mm versus XXX OT discussions, please, I wanted to talk about the weapon specifically).

Added bonus: I can rack the slide with the safety on for a chamber check.

It can be done with one hand too. The newer ones have chamber indicator on the extractor.

Congrats. My wife really likes her USP 9mm, fits her hand perfectly. I shot it for the first time last weekend and man it is nice! I'm a 1911 guy and the nice thing is you can carry the USP cocked and locked. The SA trigger pull is good out of the box. DA is a little stiff, but will loosen with use. The USP is a sweet shooter, not as nice as my HP though :neener: Enjoy and shoot safe.

I have a USPc V1 in 9mm with Heinie Straight Eights and it's the gun I carry almost all the time. Great gun. My only complaint is the DA trigger. compared to a sig, it feels like there's broken glass in there. But since I bought the gun for C&L concealed carry, no worries there. Otherwise it's just a super pistol. Good choice.

Thanks, it seemed to make a lot of sense for an all-around purchase at the moment. I don't know if this will be my carry weapon or not in the long term, but right now it should serve me well.

This has the red paint on the side of the extractor, so I should be able to see a chambered round indication.

Distra, are you saying that this is a woman's gun??? ;) Just kidding, a friend of mine who likes things like the S&W 500 gives me crap about my 9mms. I tell him to stand down range and be shot with a crappy little round to see how effective it is.

Sights might be a future purchase, does the slide have a common dovetail or is it H&K proprietary?

I thought you said you bought one? this should be obvious.

If it were obvious, I wouldn't have asked the question. What is obvious to me is a dovetail on one weapon doesn't necessarily match one on another, and I thought I might get some insight here.

Is this a typical response from an H&K owner?:scrutiny:

you should have no problem getting sights for this gun. I'm sure mepro and trijis make them, I myself have Heinie's on mine (I highly recommend those, expensive though).
