MN - Carry law survive special leg. session!

The Special Session of the 2003 legislature ended last night without any modifications to the new carry law. This is good news for us here in Minnesota.
Republicans had agreed to some minor changes in the wording, but opponents of the new law wanted nothing but its repeal. No action was taken on it, so it appears that it's going to be safe until at least next February, when the '04 session begins.
Of course, we'll have to see how the lawsuit(s) turn out...

Well, at least for now you guys have shall-issue CCW in MN.
Still arguing about it in the Ohio Spineless Senate, and case is now before Ohio Supreme court.

What, is there an actual chance that the new law could be repealed or something?

Safe until February? Good. By then proponents of the law will have several months' worth of good behavior by permit holders to point to. "See? No problem. Just like we told you last year."
The people wanting it repealed because it makes MN "so much more dangerous" won't have a leg to stand on.

BAB: There was a move afoot calling for its repeal. In fact, a bill was introduced on 21 May to do just that. It got the treatment that the Shall-Issue bill received for several years: it went to committee to die! It had 28 authors - there were 30 "Nay" votes when the shall-issue bill became law (37-30). My Senator musta been absent, as his name wasn't on it.
StL: My feelings exactly. By that time, the truth will be known. Many No Guns signs will have come down. All the dust will have settled, and we *should* be safe. Until, that is, the Democrats manage to take back the house and the governor's mansion.
I think the next election will be a bloody one for the the lefties. I expect more meltdown in the DFL (that's the Democratic party in MN) Party, and am looking forward to it with glee.
JB - 28 (or fewer) days to wait for my permit:)

One of the lawsuits has already been tossed. A claim that the law was unconstitutional because it didn't address a single subject was thrown out for lack of standing (or so I've heard - I've seen no detailed reports.)
The other lawsuit - by the churches - at worst can only eliminate the posting requirements at churches.
They say no man's wallet or gun is safe while the legislature is in session. They closed up shop yesterday.
The session is over, the danger is over.
We have our carry permits (I applied about half an hour ago).
And we dealt with the largest budget deficit in state history without raising taxes!

Jeff:
Good to see you over here. You're grossly outnumbered (but not "outgunned") in mn.politics. I can't believe the crap you tolerate over there... (I lurk, but rarely post. The personal attacks from the communists are unbelievable.) At least you're among friends here.
For the time being, both our wallets and our carry permits are safe from the vultures in St. Paul.
I'm looking for the first sign here in Willmar. The courthouses are (illegally) posted, but I haven't seen them personally, just in the local paper. The chief district judge has declared that all district court facilities are extension of his courtroom, thus off-limits for carriers. As I said, illegal, but I'm not yet ready to contest it...

Would you post a link to this, I never new it existed and it looks like a place I might want to check out.
The press just won't let this die, I just heard that the Minneapolis Star & Tribune is going to run another story on conceal carry in their Sunday paper.

I sent an email to Star Trib, they claim to read all of them. I am waiting to see if they send a response :scrutiny:
