Is there anywhere that refinishes blued handguns?
More specifically; Say I just purchased a taurus 1911...Can I get it completely refinished in Chrome?

I would not recommend chrome as a firearms finish. You may wish to have it nickle plated instead. My personal opinion of plated guns is not good as you change the tolerances and may create operating problems(been there, done that). I am certain there are some places that still do nickle plateing on guns but most just buy stainless steel and avoid the hassle.

Are you talking bumper chrome or hard chrome?
They are totally different animals.
Fords. (http://www.fordsguns.com/)
Tripp. (http://www.trippresearch.com/)
APW. (http://www.apwcogan.com/Refinishing.htm)
All come highly recommended.
Then, there is Bubba (http://www.bumperboyz.com/main.htm).

Well...I guess hard chrome..But nickel probably would be better

Hard Chrome is known as THE ultimate plated gun finish. I would have no reservations about having a pistol chromed by one of the aforementioned platers. Your Taurus would be a fine candidate.

Nickel is not better for a gun that will be used. It is much softer than hard chrome and easier to scratch or damage just in normal use.
Hard chrome is still one of the top choices for any firearm that gets used, it's tough and rust resistant. Matte finished hard chrome is easier to keep looking good than polished also.

U'd also needa watch out for certain solvents w/ a Nickel finish.
Hard chrome is the most durable finish hardness wise...

That's correct. Hoppes, for instance, will blacken nickel.
I too would suggest hard chroming from one of the sources already listed.

Check these sources for more details;

I had a LE surplus Beretta 96D that was RoBar/NP3 plated. It was great :D .
Check around. Get a high quality plate job and get some mags plated too, ;) .
If possible I would have most carry/duty weapons plated.

... NP3 plated. It was great.
+1
The NP3 finish is nothing short of incredible. I had no idea it was so slick until I felt it on my Springfield 1911. It's like having built in lubrication.
