Taurus Report

Well I went to a convention show on Saturday to check out the lastest and greatest in firearms. While there I decided to give Taurus another look, as you can't buy anything, just look. I had one many moons ago and sold it because of problems. I was very much interested in the PT145 and began to handle it. Just as I was the slide would not go into battery, I tired and tired even calling a rep over to see if it was me doing something wrong. Nope he couldn't do it either, so he took it off the display went and put another one in it's place. :what:
Well that right there told me you get what you pay for. A disposable gun, when it breaks through it away and get another one. :scrutiny: Things happen, but at a show, thank goodness it didn't happen while trying to stop a B.G. from taking your life!!!!! Needless to say they are great inexpensive guns, just not for me. Maybe I'll check back with them in another 10-15 years.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with the Taurus, however, this has not been the experience of many Taurus owners myself included. I would not judge a gun by an isolated experience at a gun show. They are great guns at a great price and much better than others that have well known names. In this industry like any other one, you pay sometimes more just to have a certain name on it. Just my .02 cents.

I had the same thing happen to me when checking out a Kel-tec P11 at Gander, and yet Kel-tec seems to be building a good reputation regardless. After neither I nor the salesperson could do it, I just said " well.. I don't think I'll buy that one" , and he smiled and stored the gun somewere out of the display case. And yet I would still consider a kel-tec. Sometimes at expensive car dealerships, they barely get a brand car out of the lot when it breaks down ( I even saw it happen before it got out of the lot once ). I think guns are the same way, every so often one is just going to have something wrong with it.

I saw on the news that this black guy raped and murdered a helpless woman a few nights ago.
I better steer clear of all of them, right?

Wow, I was relying my personal experience and didn't expect people to come back acting like a scorned woman. Opinions vary and thought people would like to hear how funny it was to have a gun malfunction in front of thousands of people at a display. :cuss:
I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the majority of Taurus guns oout there, they are just not right for ME!!!!! :barf:
Deer Hunter, I can't beleive you're going to play a race card, but if it makes you feel any better to avoid black people go ahead. :fire:
Forums are meant so people can speak there opinion and vioce their experiences, if you don't like what I said close this thread and move on!!!!:neener:

In the latest gun test's magazine, in a 5 gun comparo, 3 glocks, 1 XD, and the Taurus PT-1450 PRO, the Taurus got the "best buy rating. I have a PT-140 pro and it is an awesome pistol, absolutely ZERO failures in 1200 rounds. The gun is accurate, fits my hand great, excellent ergonomics, I really like this gun, matter of fact, it is my daily CCW gun. I have no trouble whatsoever betting my life on the performance of this gun. :neener:
One person's bull-sh** rant about one gun making all Taurus guns junk does not sway my faith or opinion in Taurus guns, just another flamer trying to piss people off. I have personal experience with Taurus guns, three of them as a matter of fact, that matters a whole lot more to me.

To the OP, it sounds like the spring was installed backwards. I've seen this on TWO Mil-Pro pistols NIB.
For anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, note the orientation of the spring in the following photos.

I own two Taurus 24/7 Pro .40 cal. I have over 3,000 rounds through one, and over 2,500 through the second one, never a hiccup. Standing at a gun show handling one and never owning a recent model that you fire week after week is not a way to see how a guns operates. That is not an informed review. Only a very biased opinion.
The Best to all!

Did you know if you pull the trigger on a PT145 then while the trigger is pressed you put the saftey on. The saftey then is useless and you can fire the gun while the saftey is on.

Willing to bet this is what happened. That is, user error.
On a slight side note, Taurus' modern pistol line-up (particularly, the Millenium series) are getting more popular by the minute. I like their innovation. You guys owe it to yourself to listen Gersham's GunTalk radio program and catch Taurus' Bob Morrison. It was my first time hearing about him and he seems genuine in his desire to push Taurus to the top.

Just tried that with my Pt145 MilPro, safety worked fine. Is yours a pre "Pro" model?

well all i can say is i own 3 handguns, 2 380s and the pt145, and by far the taurus pt145 rankes them all. To be quite honest it conceals easy, it fires smooth and it has never missed a beat, i would tell anybody to try weather its a first gun or one of many, you should definetly have one of these toys in your box.

JD_LION Keep you god damn finger off the trigger if your trying to put the safty on!
How stipid are people out there squeezing the trigger while they are trying to put the pistol in a safe mode :banghead: I am so sick of hearing about this. Some are evening using this as an excuse to not buy a Taurus, Thats just retarted! Glocks and others like that dont even have that feature so you can shoot it ever time you pull the trigger too. If you are pulling the trigger you are intending it to fire so you should not have the safty on to begin with :cuss:

And to the OP. It was a disply model for the shows I'm sure and who knows how many gun stupid people had been picking it up and playing with it. So Someone could have takin the slid off and the spring fell and they quickly put it back and it was backward, who knows what happends to dispays that have been fondled by so many people. I buy a lot of guns at Academy or Gander Mountain but I will not buy the disply model even if they offer it to me for less ;)

NO, I like doing this. I like to keep the trigger pressed so I can feel the trigger on the release. By habit on the last shot I throw on the saftey.
Why should I not do this? Is there a rule somewhere that I missed, telling me not to do this, or is this your rule that you created?
If so many other people are talking about this then I guess they don't know your rule either.
Stupid and Retarted is the manufacture for creating this DESIGN FLAW.

JD,
Jeff Coopers 4 rules.
#3 Keep your finger off the trigger 'till your sights are on the target.
(This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.)

I guess I have to explain it better.
While I have the pistol pointed at the target and I finish my last shot with the gun still on the target and the trigger still pressed I by habit put on the saftey Then release the trigger.
If I put in another mag and rack it The saftey then is useless and I can fire the pistol with the saftey on. And that is NOT a good thing.
I just wanted to point out the flaw.
P.S. I am a Taurus fan, and will keep on buying their products.

How do you put the safty on? when after the last shot the slide stays locked back. Sounds to me you found a way it could come into play and ran with it. I for one have been shooting to years and years and never once have I tried to put the safty on while I was still in the process of pulling the trigger. http://vcoftulsa.com/forums/style_emoticons/default/crazy.gif

It is a simple process you put your thumb on the safety lever and push it to safe.
I have been shooting auto's for many moons and have never owned another pistol that could fire with the safety on.
Again I just wanted to point out the flaw of the gun no matter how I get to the point that the trigger is pressed and I put the safety on it is a design flaw.

I guess those over at Taurus did not count on anyone trying to fire the weapon while putting it in safe mode  I'm not going to get into an "E-argument" I'm sure you were just trying to show people you knew something about the gun that most don't so you would look smart but the fact of the matter is. There is no reason to pull the trigger and try to engage the safety. Please let me know if you are ever shooting at the range in Houston because I sure don't want to be there with someone who makes such unsafe gun handling procedures a habit.
