I was reading a book yesterday in which the author related a story of a guy who purportedly shot a big charging grizzly bear with an 375 H&H Magnum a total of 6 times before the purported bear finally dropped.

My guess is that one of the following explains this:

A) A lot of the shots either missed entirely or were shallow glancing wounds.
B) The bear was wearing body armor with plates.

I have never hunted Bear. I have never shot a bear. I have no plans on hunting Bear. However, I am curious to hear from those that have hunted bear to get their opinion of the credibility of this story.

"...a big charging grizzly bear..." Yogi is generally very PO'd if he's charging. No cartridge gives a 100% guarantee to stop anything. Never mind a PO'd griz.
You're likely right about the shot placement though. To stop or at least slow Yogi down, you need to break bones. Preferably his spine. Even then he doesn't always know he's dead or seriously hurt. Yogi can travel a long way at about 35 MPH, shot or not.

wait a minute "he had time to reload" i don't know of any rifle chambered in 375H&H that holds 6 rounds, do you? and charging grizzlys aren't inclined to wait while you do! something smells fishy about that story.
