How far do you go when using a cutter type crimp remover? Will it naturally bottom out or is it guesstemation?

You just need to remove the remnant of the crimp from the outside of the pocket. With a chambering tool its only a twist or two.

With a twist drill it's only a twist or two also. And it gives you a neat campher for starting the primer. I use an old 1/2 drill bit that I have reground with a steeper angle and my hand.:)

the RCBS tool (10 bucks or so from midway) has a flat face that won't allow it to cut away an excessive amount of material. that being said if you lean it on its side while grinding it is possible to take too much material away, but you gotta really work for it.
