This is from a Florida station in Orlando reporting on a robbery in Melbourne.

Those have got to be the most ignorant bimbo talking heads on television today. Does their daddy own the TV station? How could such idiots get a job otherwise?

Ooooohhhh...that's a really big gun you have their Mr Robber. Can I stroke it? Mmmmm....it's a large gun, isn't it? Do you know how to use it? oooh. Big gun, big gun, big gun aaahhhhh!! yes! yes! yes!

Wow...just...wow.
Exploding pointy bullets, even a scope (vital for targets up to and including 2 feet away)!
I hear one shot from a SKS will level 3 city blocks!

I got made fun of and otherwise harassed when I pointed this out to my dad and brother but....

THE SKS IS NOT AN ASSAULT RIFLE!

Sorry for the size, just had to get that off my chest...*breathes deep*

"as you can see these bullets are very pointy"

"this is smaller than the actual bullets, which are about 3 inches long"

last time I checked the sks is 7.62x39, and 39mm is NOT 3 inches.

I'm going out to my garage right now to make sure none of my 7.62X39 has the exploding tip. I'd hate to be responsible for leveling a whole block of Atlanta. :banghead:

Be sure to let us know if you find any.

Let us know if you find any 7.62x39 rounds loaded up with 3" long bullets, too.

Thanks.

Whew, I thought it was Melbourne Australia when I saw the title.
Luckily we don't have anything that dangerous here, 'cept maybe the Drop Bears:neener:

I guess these reporters went to the same school as the ones that reported the 22mm shell casings at the shooting scene the other day.

a 3" bullet would be twice as long as the case of a 7.62X39!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/bru333/shooting/oops/uncommonlylong.jpg
Then again, I'm sure they were referring to the entire loaded round as a "bullet".

A 7.62X54 is right at 3", (which still wouldn't be the right ammo).

What a let down! Reading the post before the vid loaded I was expecting Atomic Annie or maybe a Paladin Howitzer. Not very man portable but that's my definition of a "big" gun.

Ahh, yes, it's a "pretty big gun indeed" better watch out for those 'pretty big guns', they might get, ya. :D

The video doesn't work for me. I get some brunette in leather coat staring off into space in front of a police station. Not video, not sound, all I get is a still picture.

I have a wicked fast cable modem so it's certainly not my connection.

I saw the report as well. a PD spokesweasel stated that "the man obviously figured he had nothing to lose since he did not make any attempt to cover his face"

Hey, how about he was just some whacked-up loser who was jonesing and decided to hold up the minimart with a rifle?

Thank God there was no bayonet attached! Someone might have gotten hurt!

I'm still laughing...
They need a third dipsey doodle and they could be modern day Stooges. What a pathetic performance, not even High School level, but between Kindergarden and Elementary School. "Really BIG" is the only adjective the pair can come up with... The pair demonstrate for the world just how ignorant they are... "Pointy bullet" Exploding! and the Bimbett standing with the round in her hand is precious. Hey boneheads, How about terms like Intimidating, Threatening, or Retarded Criminal, but then those would be perjoritive terms, can't have that.

Have there ever been any HE rounds made for the AK/SKS series of long arms?

I don't recall seeing or hearing of H(igh) E(xplosive) projectiles loaded in the 7.62x39 rounds...haven't even heard of any Armor Piercing loads in that cal, either.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeshhhhhhhh

Not saying those rounds don't exist, just never saw/heard of any in 7.62x39

This must be in ons of the Peoples' Republics....CA, NJ, NY or IL. I can't see this being anywhere else....Really Big gun? Wait till she sees an Mosin or Mauser!
This article had one purpose and one purpose only....to strengthen the gun banners' already shaky theories.
I had a good laugh though....explode on impact. If the PD did give that info to her, I'd be willing to bet it's one of those PD's that only let their officers qualify once a year!

I live just down the street from the 7-11 that was robbed. Hearing that just makes me glad I have my own EBR with "exploding bullets" and scope to defend myself. On second thought, would I get extra points for stopping the robbery with a .380?

Puhleeze, Highwitness news (channel9) is the worst panty wetter station around. Marty Salt is a retread who got fired about 10 years ago, went to Tampa for a couple years, got a face stretch and a repackage. The whole station shares one brain in the janitor's closet with very long jumper cables. Joe

It's not just firearms related stupidity, it's anything that reporters are not familiar with and are too lazy to do a little fact checking or research.

For anyone who knows Naval Aircraft - When I was stationed on Guam, we had a JMDF (Japanese Maritime Defense Force) P-2V Neptune aircraft visit. A local reported told about 10,000 Navy folks on the island that it was a "highly modified P-3 Orion. ( I Guess! Like it managed to lose 2 engines.....)

I also heard a reporter refer to a general aviation aircraft as a "reciprocal engine aircraft" (That would be reciprocating engine aircraft - i.e., piston-driven)

I might be picking nits, but you would think that folks in the INFORMATION industry would take the time to get it right.

I have a sks, but it is much smaller and shoots tiny bullets. Next time I will get my sks from "Big Al's Big Guns, Scopes n' More"

The media needs to get a clue. Guns ar either too big or too small.

You guys should live in smaller towns. I'm about 120 miles from the Metroplex (D/FW), and the news folks we have here are in training for the bigger markets, and some of the folks born and raised here (as in never been more than 20 miles in any direction) absolutely amaze me. Shortly after we moved here, one night my wife and I are laying in bed watching the 10:00 news, when a story comes on about an explosion at a house in one of the smaller towns 8 miles away. The reporter asks the firechief (volunteer of course), what happened. His response "Welll, I got the call and went over there and saw it was on "far", but by the time I went and got the "far" truck and got back, it was already burned down". Then the reporter asks the homeowner "What do think about this?", and his response is "Wellll, (it always starts that way), I've lived here 30 years, and she ain't never blowed up on me before" :banghead: :banghead: You gotta love the folks here, they're good as gold to their neighbors, and do great things for their communities, but sometimes ya gotta wonder if they've been marrying thier cousins too long.

The only thing scarier and more threatening to our children than a fully-automatic revolver is a BIG Russian SKS fully-automatic big assault rifle with a big sniper scope and big pointy, armor-piercing exploding bullets over three inches long.

Thank God the cops didn't get there in time to actually foil the robbery - it could have been a bloodbath! So, you see, it's actually a good thing they didn't catch the robber...

I'm amazed that this PD hasn't claimed that everyone ticketed for traffic violations so far this year was found to have been driving a tank with a mounted .50, headed for the nearest preschool.

I don't think so. Not to say our news agencies are well informed (they're not), but we do have law enforcement that knows their stuff, and would probably not provide information that is so horribly wrong. They have decent reputations to uphold here. Now ********** (anywhere) or Chicago: I could believe they would make that kind of screw up, plus a few more.

I couldn't get the video to work either so I went to

and saw the website had a searchfuction, so I put in robbery and melbourne (well, melborne the first time woops!) and was able to get to the video that way

http://www.wftv.com/video/10726717/detail.html

it is possible they moved it the next day to make room for more news
