...will this kill the rising used market of the P245???...I am not fond of the beavertail but it looks like it might be a nice concealed carry option...more SiG looking slide serrations, slightly different base pad/finger rest...anyone know how the P245 compared sizewise to a GLOCK 30???
Thanks,
Bill

I was under the impression that the SIG P245 was done...it's no longer in SIG's catalog. Could be wrong, though.

The 245 was removed from the catalog and is no longer made...I believe the carry to be a bit bigger than the g30 but only a little.

You are both right...that's why I asked about the new SiG COMPACT...not Carry or P245...

Sorry but you did reference the P245 in your post at the end...as for this new gun its a 245 with a beavertail...can't see the difference.

ok, I agree...and since it looks similar to a P245 with a beavertail, do you know how it might compare sizewise with a Glock G30???...

I would think they are very close in size...but I have never handled them back to back....Sig maybe a touch thinner.

I own a P245 and I honestly don't get this new "P220 compact". It's essentially a P245 with a friggin extended base plate on the magazine? And I also don't know of many people that suffer slide or hammer bite from a P-series SIG. If anything, on this platform, the beavertail looks like it would be more of a hinderance than a help. I really don't get some of SIG's new ideas lately.

Big Sig fan/owner here......

I really want one of the P220 Carry Elite SRT (Short Reset Trigger) but wish I could get it less the beavertail. All my Sigs are DA/SA. Not that there would be a lot of circumstances that I would do it...but......it would be a bitch to cock the hammer with the beavertail in the way.

I bet some careful filing could take care of the beavertail, for those inclined at least.

I mean I usually try to never let 1 single aspect prevent me from buying a gun:p

The beavertail might help on your draw if you were off or your holster moved, but other than that I'm not sure what it is for on the Sig. It doesn't look like it would allow your hand to grip the pistol higher.:scrutiny:

Actually, I think I like it, notwithstanding the beavertail.

When I first saw the P220 Carry, I thought to myself that a shortened grip would really make it a much more attractive choice - for me - as a carry gun.

I think this P220 Compact might be what I've been looking for. While I'm not sure the beavertail is really a necessity by any means, it might conceivably be helpful in achieving a rapid grip on presentation, could dissipate recoil and might even lessen muzzle flip a bit. Or not.

So, when are these going to be hitting the shelves?

The 245 was a great concept but one that sorta fell short in the area of "feel". If you have big hands like me, the grip was simply too short..being a 3 finger grip rather than a 4 finger which gives alot more control especially in rapid fire.

'Ive been carrying the Sig P225 for concealed carry. As soon as I can get my hands on the 220 Compact, I'm buying it. It feels so much better in my hand than the 245 that there is no comparison.

Two things:

"...I also don't know of many people that suffer slide or hammer bite from a P-series SIG."

I have small hands (size 12) and P230s do bite my hand. For those that do not know hand sizes mine are very large hands.

"If you have big hands like me, the grip was simply too short..being a 3 finger grip rather than a 4 finger which gives alot more control especially in rapid fire."

People make too much of curling the little finger under the magazine. It is no big deal and it helps to stabilize your grip.

The P245 is a fine pistol that wasn't well marketed.

Richard:D

Richard, when most folks speak of the P-series, they are referring to the all but the P230/232. The other pistols are all derived from similar modified Browning designs, with the SIG action. The P230/232 is a bit of an anomaly.

I waffle on the beavertail. I have never experienced slide bite from my SIGs (P220, P228, P239), so it seems quite superfluous... But I dry-fired an Elite at a local store, and I have to admit: it felt good. The beavertail might allow for a higher grip on the gun in firing (I don't know for sure until I try firing it), which could result in less muzzle flip. Dunno, I'd like to try one.

I agree about 2-finger grips. I'm used to a j-frame, and I have no problems curling a finger as well as the grip is well designed. I prefer a 2-finger to a "barely 3 finger with a mag lip extension" as I despise the mag extensions that are so common nowadays. They typically interfere with my supporting hand but poking me in one of the fingers. I'd rather hang a finger off and get a solid supporting grip. (That said, the little lip on my P239 doesn't bug me... But my HK P2000's does!)

Ah, the P220 Compact fixes the/my biggest problem with the P245, eh? If it has a grip I can get my whole hand on while being appreciably more compact than the P220, I will own one at my earliest opportunity (w/ SRT!).
