Greenville City Police are looking into a report of armed robbery where three local students menaced the owner of a Honda Civic and ganged up on her male friend Tuesday. According to reports, the incident happened about 1:50 p.m. Police say the students held the woman and her friend at gunpoint to take hubcaps from her car.
The incident started at the Peace Center when one the three suspects tried to take a hubcap from the Honda Civic, Lt. Mike Gambrell said.
A fight broke out when the woman's friend tried to stop them, he said. That's when the three suspects ganged up on the man, Gambrell said. After the fight, as the woman and her friend drove away, they were followed by the suspects to an East North Street parking lot, police reported. There, one of suspects held a gun on the male victim while another took three of the Honda's hubcaps, police say.
Lt. Gambrell said the case being investigated as an armed robbery and third degree lynching. An investigation is continuing, he said.
