Hi gang,

Going to King's Island in Cincy on Sunday, other than OH's not recognizing my CCW :cuss: what issues do I face getting in? I see by there website that they have metal detectors going in, so it's obviously a free-crime zone.

Website also says subject to vehicle search, surely not right? If I didn't already have tickets...

Michael

Avoid the temptation of taking your gun to Ohio. It's not worth it.

If you have the weapon cased like you are supposed to while in OH then there is nothing they can do if they happen to search your car (VERY unlikely as their main interest is getting cars into the lot and people into the park). Don't try to carry there, the downside just isn't worth the risk.

Ditto the above about keeping the gun in the trunk when you hit the Ohio river. Vehicle search more than likley means glancing in the passenger compartment for coolers. I believe they are more concerned that you are going to "carry" a beverage and bypass their ultra inflated prices.

Side note - The Beast is an awesome coaster. There's faster and longer and higher and smoother,, but the Beast simply rocks!!!

Paramont Kings Island has a new rule this year. NO WEAPONS OF ANY KIND in the park. They now have metal detectors at the gate and pimple-faced teenaged clowns that make mall ninjas look like G-men. Would be easy to circumvent the "security," but if you are caught, there is a real cop standing by. They glance through your bags/strollers as well. They can probably offset the cost of the metal detectors and bozos by the increased enforcement of banning outside food and beverages.

They give you a piece of paper explaining the procedure as you go in the parking lot. They show a knife under the prohibition symbol, probably because with teens, their main crowd, knives are a bigger concern to them than guns. KI is not gang-infested. You can leave your defense in the car (not recommended). They do not search your car.

I went a couple of weeks ago. They took a box cutter from a kid in front of me. No big deal. Just threw it in the trash.

Also, Kings Island is in Warren County (not Hamilton Cty) where the ban on CCW has not yet been ruled unconstitutional. I posted this on packing.org but had not done so here (yet).

Oh, yeah. When you drop over the first hill of "The Beast" and see that little hole in the ground that you'll be going through :what: there is no need to worry. No matter how small it looks, it will NOTdecapitate you. I am 6'3" and learned that the scrunching down in the seat and crying like a little girl is totally uncalled for. :D

And, for the obigatory gun content, I sure wouldn't leave a gun in my trunk while I was spending a day in an amusement park. YMMV

I don't know how anyone could carry a gun on most of those rides anyway. You get flipped on the coasters, rocked on carnival rides, and soaked on the water rides.

When I go to Kings Island, the only things that go into the park with me are a car key, money, and ID.

That said, I still don't agree with their "SECURITY" measures. Metal detectors ensure that only a premeditated mass murderer will enter with a weapon. Sounds safe to me.

While kayaking and exploring tributaries on the Little Miami river a couple of years ago, a friend and I discovered the fresh-water runoff stream from the KI sewage treatment plant. As yucky as it might sound, it was perfectly clean. We 'yaked up there far enough to realize where we were and went back.

We could have hauled a Minuteman missile up there if we'd had enough boat. So much for pimply security.

Hmmm.... I wonder if they would "check" your firearms for you?

Nah... What am I THINKING?

The Beast- so cool. I haven't been since 85 or so but insist the wife must go back with me someday. Cedar Point would be a mindblower, I just wonder if I can still handle it w/o
hurling on all below???
