I attended a match last night just to observe. Looks like a lot of fun. I plan on going in two weeks to give it a try. However, I'll need a holster for my .357 Magnum 6". I looked at the CR Speed, but I think for starters $200 is a bit steep, for the likes of me. Anyone have suggestions for something a bit more modest?

If I like the sport I may decide to change guns. Nearly everyone in the local club shoots pistols. No revolvers at all last night.

A common choice among ICORE competitors is the Safariland 002 Cup Challenge for a good, inexpensive model.

When you get to shooting sanctioned matches where they enforce all the rules, you'll need a revolver with a maximum barrel length of 4.1" for IDPA anyway.

In IPSC barrel length is not the issue that it is in IDPA.

Where are you located? I have one of my dad's race rigs for a wheel gun.

IPSC allows revolvers with barrels up to 8.5" (according to the handgun list on the USPSC website. The rules specify "no maximum." I understand IDPA is different.

Fawkes, I'm outside of Chicago, IL.

Anything you have will be fine as long as the trigger guard is covered when the gun is holstered, that really is the end of the discussion in USPSA revolver division. CR Speed is what most use, they can be had for about $150 from www.shootersconnection.com . Some others use Blade Tech kydex holsters, and some use leather or nylon standard type holsters.

If you have a holster and it covers the triggerguard you are all set. You will want at least 5 speedloaders and some mechanism to carry them too.

Ouch! Holsters are getting expensive. I use the Safariland which is sellling for $91 at Midway. I purchased mine for around $60 a few years back. Big inflation.

You can use the "gun show loophole" to purchase holsters for less than you can usually in the stores or on the net. I've seen some good second hand holsters for a fraction of the price for a new one.

Some of us use the Safariland 002 cup holster modified a bit, others use the Bladetech, and still others use the CR speed. I do know one person who modified a Gilmore holster for Revolver. The Bladetech will get you pretty far along, I've been using my Safariland for some time and thought about switching to a CR speed, but I think for now I'll just use the 002 cup holster.1.14 second draws I can live with for a little while. I can further modify the Safariland for faster draws, but I'll have to have some sort of retention device as the 6.5" 610 is on the edge of being fully retained now. I'll be using this same holster when I start using a 627 for ICORE.

Hi Vince,

Didn't make the Jan ICORE practice, but I think Feb is doable. Bringing my Safariland 002 and maybe trying my M66 with moonclips. More challenging.
