With the increasing interest in blackpowder shooting and cowboy action shooting, I figured that there have to be some publications on the subject. Do you guys have any magazines that you would recommend subscribing to?

I enjoy Muzzle Loader and Muzzle Blasts. BTW, April edition of Muzzle Blasts will have my article on building the iron mounted southern rifle with Hershel House. They've ran quite a number of my sharpshooter articles too.

If you're into Cowboy Action Shooting though, these magazines are not for you. They're more into the French & Indian War, Revolutionary War era. Sometimes they'll touch into the Civil War.

Guns of the old west mag typically has one article or more on some type of black powder weapon, usually a pistol. I love it as it goes into all things cowboy even the B western movie stars from yester year. It is a quarterly mag and quite pricey because of all the glossy color pics of old west reproductions and actual antiques.

Shoot magazine (www.shootmagazine.com) is great if you are into the Cowboy Shooting. They have run a few articles on Black Powder shooting, but most have been silhouette shooting. Since there has been a BIG increase in popularity of Black Powder shooting in CAS, there has been some promise of more articles in the future.

Backwoodsman often has articals on black powder guns. They are also geared toward the average income consumer unlike the slick gun rags who cater to the no expense spared crowd. Always interesting to read a review by old Charlie and his writters.

I second that comment of Backwoodsman. Its a fantastic magazine. Dont be put off by the 'amaturish' look of it, there are articles in there that you just wont find anywhere else.
