I have a Smith & Wesson 19-4 (1978 vintage, pinned barrel, recessed chambers) with 4" barrel;

How much does it weigh while empty?

FWIW, I just threw my model 19-5 2 1/2", round butt with Bianchi Lightning grips onto my postage scale and it reads 2 1/2 # exactly. Don't know what the extra 2" of barrel weighs. 2 or three ounces? If yours is a square butt that may weigh an extra ounce.

No kitchen scale in your house?

Factory spec. is 35 ozs. That would include target stocks that were standard on this model.

Bill: Thanks & no I do not have a kitchen scale

Fluff: Thanks...I took the target grips off since they didn't fit me well and installed Uncle Mike's (now Butler Creek) combat rubber grips...I guess the weight is about the same as with factory grips

Most folks did take off those wood target stocks that came on the gun. Now they are collectors' items and going for big bucks... :what:

The rubber stocks are slightly lighter. You can knock 1/2oz. or so off of the specified weight.

My 4 inch, square butt, P&R Model 66 (basically a Model 19 in stainless) weighs 34.7 oz with Pachmayr Presentation grips.

the grips went back to the shop where I bought the gun and I got a credit off my next ammo purchase...no the credit wasn't much, but I am loyal to that shop and the owner has knocked @ $35 to $50 off asking price of guns I've bought from him before...I've probably made up the 'value' of the grips already thru the price cuts I've received

Tis funny...

Back during the '50s and '60s no one could stand those S&W target stocks. They were pretty, but they didn't fit anybody. They were usually switched out for something else before the ink was dry on the purchase paperwork. Dealers had boxes full of take-offs. Now collectors are paying through the nose to get them back. If I'd only known...
