Hey Guys, I finally settled on a 5 1/2" barrel Ruger Blackhawk. I was trying to decide on that or a 7 1/2" barrel... I can't believe how obsessive I became over such miner details... Well, I am a proud owner of a BlackHawk! :rolleyes:

In my opinion, there is no finer production platform for the .45 Colt than the Ruger Blackhawk. Congratulations -- you have a fine gun.

My Blackhawk .45 Colt with 7.5" barrel is my favorite pistol for nearly 25 years, and I have owned and still own many top shelve pistols.

Mine has been shot a lot, well over 10,000 rounds. I slicked it up myself years ago, dropped in a lighter trigger spring and slowly worked on the sear. The trigger pull is incredible. People that handle this pistol are amazed at how glass like the action is.

I tell you this because with a little patience yours can be the same. I didn't mention the accuracy of mine, but I have shot squirrels out of tall pine trees with my pet handload.

I have an "old model" .45 convertible (interchangeable .45 Colt and .45 Auto cylinders). It is "unaltered" (no safety conversion). No, you can't have it. :neener:

I haven't gone down the .45Colt road as I have too many others I enjoy right now but I wholeheartedly agree on the Blackhawk. I've got two right now and have high hopes the'll multiply if left to their own devices. :D

A 5 1/2" BH was the first gun I ever bought for myself. Still have it and still a great shooting revolver. It started my affection with Ruger single action. Careful they're contagious.

YES! Take a bow, Vern! Strong, accurate to the extreme, and able to take loads that would frag a SAA or DA N frame. Settled? Sheesh!:cuss: Only thing I can think of finer is north of the $1000 price category. Uh, I'll stick with my Blackhawk.

I have a ruger BH in 45 volt with a 7.5 " barrel. :) I love to reload for it too!. Right now I'm using 23.5 gr of Lil Gun pushing a 240 gr XTP. :D

Nice choice. Two things you may not know:

1) Your Blackhawk is hella-strong - you can safely use .45 ammo like the Buffalo Bore stuff, which meets or even exceeds .44mag power levels.

2) If you take the grips off, you'll see the two legs of the hammer spring resting on a little pin. If you want, you can lift one of the legs off and just let it hang there. On many Blackhawks, this improves the trigger pull without any unpleasant side effects, and it's easy to put it back if if you decide you liked it better that way.

I have one of the five-inch guns, and I've removed the adjustable rear sight. I use the 'wings' on either side as a fixed site now, and believe it or not it works perfectly! It did require that I file the front sight down a bit, but I am very pleased with the result. The end result is a very big, solid sight picture that is not going to shift around.

I just bought a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in 45lc/45acp (http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=463&return=Y) two days ago. I also went with the 5.5"

I pick it up in 8 days.

What are you going to use for a holster?

Congrats on the Blackhawk! Mine was my first ever centerfire pistol of any kind, and I'll never part with it.

Jato, that was my first handgun. I used the .45 ACP cylinder almost exlusively for the first year until I could get into reloading and now it just sits there as I shoot the .45 Colt.

It's going to take a while for the 45 Colt experience to grow on me... I'm used to the recoil of the 357, and still felt more comfortable shooting my Uberti with primative sights. The Ruger sights are going to take some getting used to. I need to start reloading but don't know where to start? Hmmm.... Anyways, I'm thinking of selling my Uberti and getting a Blackhawk 357, so I have a matching pair... If I were to sell my Uberti 1873 Cattleman, I need to locate a place to put up an ad or something?

It was fun shooting today... I hit a few cottontails in the head, took them home, and cleaned them for dinner! :rolleyes:

I agree completely with Vern's statement that this is the best platform for a production SA revolver.

Well made, stronger than they have to be, reliable, accurate, and Ruger's customer service is second to none. These guns are a stone cold bargain.

One of the cool things about the 5.5" version is that the Ruger paragraph is on the bottom of the barrel, rather than the side.

The 7 1/2" is the convertable. Ruger didn't make the convertables at the time it was sold, but it was sent back to Ruger to have the extra cylinder fitted. I bought them both last year; with the way prices are going up I figured I'd better get them while I could still afford them :rolleyes:
