I tested fifty rounds of Rainier 155gr TMJ Flatpoints in my M&P 40 today and had two fail to load. Recipe: 155gr TMJ flat, once fired CCI Blazer case, CCI 500 primer, 5.6 gr Unique.
The rounds jammed against the top of the chamber as they came up the feed ramp.

I can't think of a way to make them more reliable except to increase the seating depth. I just thought I'd put ths out as an FYI.

I have shot quite a few Ranier 155 TrFP's in my XD @ 1.125 O.A.L. with no problems. They also shot fine out of my friends Firestar. What O.A.L. are you using?

I'm seating to 1.130. I get a bit of variance (usually .001 or 2) which I'm pretty sure is technique. When I go slow and steady, I get much better results. But I'm working on a single stage Lee, so time is money. Maybe I'll try a deeper seating with more measurement checks and see if that gets better results.

If they are hitting the top of the chamber mouth you might try to tighten (close) the lips of your magazine just a tad. NOT MUCH. It might work.:) That should pull the nose of the bullet down to where it hits the feed ramp. If it is hitting the feed ramp of the barrel now and bouncing up and jamming against the top of the chamber mouth, loosen (open) the magazine lips just a tad...

you have to be careful with rainier bullets...since they are soft lead with just a copper plating, if you crimp them too much they will bulge out and cause you to have feeding problems.

HI
Where did you get, your load data?
5.6gn. for Unique, is below, what the Lee book indicates for Lead bullets.
Lee indicates MIN. OAL to be 1.125". So a little over should be no problem.
Lee indicates 6.2 to 6.5c. For Unique. I stopped using Unique. It doesn't meter, well.
I have used these bullets. Never a problem. 5.1 of Titegroup. Titegroup meters great. */-.1 gn. And less smoke.:D

5.6 is a 10% reduction off the 6.2 I might try going up to 6.2 and see what happens. The 5.6 fired just fine, and at the range I've been shooting, there's not much of a difference.

I think the formula is 10% less than Max. 5.8gn.
Failure to load. Could be the slide, did not go fully, to the rear. 1/10 of sec. delay. Or advance, in this case.
Had a freind. Who was limp wristed. With a 2 hand grip. He would cause, my G17, to fail to load. Oh, and back then I was using Unique.

I like Universal for the .40. I was shooting 6.6 Grs. of Universal with a WLP primer @ 1.125 for an Avg. 1077 FPS from my XD SC and the other day they gave an Avg. of 1177 FPS from my new Witness Elite Match. I prefer 165 and 180 Gr. bullets for the .40 now.

Speer # 13 gives 6.2 to 7.0 Grs. Universal with a 155 Gr. jacketed bullet for 995 to 1159 FPS from a 4" barrel.

This load was safe in my guns with my load procedures, reduce to start.
