I am have a problem disassembling my Glock mags. Both my high caps and my klinton caps for a Glock 17. I follow the directions provided by Glock, but the things just WILL NOT come apart. I have tried this on five mags.

Any suggestions?

I vaguely remember this same problem when adding a finger support on. It has been a while so I do not remember the specifics, just that it required more force than I thought should be necessary.

Yeah, I do not want to break the thing. Sometimes it will go in roughly 3/16" and other times it will go in pretty far. The bottom will wiggle a little bit under normal conditions, but when I push in the little "button" it will not move at all.

Take one hand and push the button in with a punch.

Take your other hand and squeeze the sides of the mag together.

Take your third hand and...

...whoops...

...using the corner of a table or countertop, ease the floorplate forward until you can get it off the mag.

And take your fourth hand and catch the spring when it shoots across the room. :)

you push the tool inside the hole on the floor plate. when you've got it in there you have to use leverage against a part of the magazine internal structure to move the floor plate off.

I hate reviving old threads, but this is exactly what I head to deal with last night. I dug out the instruction manual and poked, pushed, and squeezed my magazine. No dice. Maybe I'm a big giant girlie-man. Eventually, I used a screwdriver and basically pried the darn base plate off. :cuss:

What is that for? I figured for $2 I should get it, just in case. When I installed the plate, I put the insert in and everything seems fine. Rounds feed normally while racking the slide manually or if I just strip them off the mag with my thumb.

I love my new Glock, with the exception of this! Reassembly was quick and easy, though.

At least I didn't get hit in the face with the spring. :)

So now my G26 comes in three sizes: standard 10 rd, extended 12 rd, and 14 rd with a G19 mag and adapter.

Maybe I should add the +2 baseplate to the G19? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Thanks dhoom. That looks like what I did, maybe I really am a girlie-man with no hand strength? I pressed on that mag like a mofo and couldn't get one side to budge, let alone both.

I also try to "pop" off the baseplate against a corner of a sturdy desk, while "pinching" the magazine tube together, it takes a bit of practice.

Glock Perfection does not extend to the mag disassembly. I've been trying for six years to get my mags apart and finally gave up. Trust me, I'm no girly-man but "a man has to know his limits." This is an area Glock needs to address with some re-design. There's no reason it should be a trip to hell just to open your mag up. And what's crazy is that field-stripping a Glock is quick and mindless, a tribute to Gaston's brilliant engineering.

While you have the Glock tool punch in the hole, with your free hand squeeze both sides of the case and firmly push the plate off using a hard surface.

I've never had any problems. I just stick a small screwdriver or a punch in the little hole in the bottom of the mag. Then I pull really hard toward the front, using the punch or screwdriver to pull off the baseplate. Never had one not come apart when I wanted it to. Just use enough force.
