.25 ACP from 4" barrel?

So, this is a pretty anemic round from the little pocket guns, but how would it fare coming out of a 4" barrel, like say in the little HK4, Walther, Sig P230, Beretta cheetah sized weapon? Just curious, please spare the "get sumthin else for self defense" discussion. :)

Probably still pretty anemic, course it wouldnt be much fun to get shot in the gut with one.

Will it actually make it to the end of a 4" barrel?

Handy, my bet would be yes and probably with enough force to cause the wet stuff to leak out and air leak in if it hit you.

You think 100FPS would really be an improvement? :scrutiny:
Yeah, it might get a little more juice... might even help it a lot. But if I'm packing a 4 inch barreled automatic, it's going to be something much more potent than a mere .25ACP.

Probably put it on a par with the standard velocity .22 LR...
which has filled a lotta graves. No talk of one-shot stops,
please. When they're dead, they'll stop.
Just my nickel's worth...

It may help with accuracy - sight radius and rotational stability of the bullet (i.e. reducing the "keyhole" effect). The .25 was originally designed to function in short barreled guns. So I wouldn't think there would be much improvement in velosity.
I would think it would be kind of like shooting 9MM's and .45 ACP's from carbines and sub machine guns. There are other advantages to using these rounds in such platforms - but not necessarily to improve velosity (down range effectivness) of the round itself.

Is this this a "just for the hell of it" question, or do you have an application in mind?

Now if they could make a truly reliable pocket gun in a .32 caliber, but the .32 caliber wasn't so anemic and put out at least 200fps of energy, it would make a great gun.
.25? I'm sure you would see an increase in velocity out of the longer barrel. I always hear talk of how a certain caliber wasn't designed to be shot out of a longer barrel so it won't help much, but IME that never seems to be the case. The 9mm and .45ACP was specifically mentioned above, but both of those rounds will make significantly more energy out of a carbine length barrel than out of a standard length handgun barrel.
The rule of thumb is typically 50 fps more per extra inch of barrel. As said above the extra 100 fps doesn't seem like much, but with every jump in speed the energy level increases at a much greater rate. ie: A 158 grain .38 special going at 800 fps will only make 224 ft/lbs of energy while a .38 special +P at 1,000 fps will make 351 ft/lbs.
