My father carries one and has had it for at least ten years with no thoughts of switching. Had to go back to the factory at first to get some work done on it due to failure to feed problems but after that no grief. It's been perfectly reliable since return and he shoots it A LOT. My impressions from borrowing it a few times was that it was very accurate for it's size, but did "bite" me on a regularly basis, only semi-auto I've had that problem with. He's never had any issues with that at all.

I'd say

Pros: Reputation for accuracy, nice looking gun, very concealable, low ammo cost, if they work they tend to work very well by most accounts.

Cons: Slide might cut your hand depnding on grip and hand shape/size. Kind of expensive, lots of reports of problem guns with feeding issues.

If it was not for the "Walther Bite" issue I would not mind packing one as opposed to any other small .22.

There are two TPHs:

One is wonderful and made in Germany.

The other is a QC crapshoot made in the US by Interarms.

Which are you asking about?

I have an Interams stainless version (purchased used, so I don't have any idea on its history), and it has been flawless in function and is quite accurate.

Handy,

Were there German-made stainless models? I thought all the stainless models were US-made.

I looked at a couple when they were fairly available. One had about a two pound SA trigger pull, the other nearly as light. Nothing I would want on a pocket pistol, but I don't know how common that is.

One thing I forgot thats important if you own or buy one is that Gun Scrubber/Brake Cleaner/ Carb Cleaner WILL eat the grips of these guns!

If thats part of your normal cleaning routine be sure to take the panels off.

I've posted this horror story on several other forums when the TPH subject comes up, so might as well drag it out again. I bought a new TPH stainless right when S&W took over Walther USA from Interarms. It was one of the last U.S. TPHs made. It had a MIM magazine latch that broke after 20 shots were fired...sent it to S&W who had taken over the repair service. They returned it to me with new (MIM) mag latch...ten or twenty shots and it broke again. Had the store where I bought it repair it and they used the MIM part S&W sent them. Ten or twenty shots and it broke. This routine went on five times. I couldn't find anyone that could or would sell me one of the older, un-MIM mag latches. I finally threw the gun in the rear of my safe and left it there for two years. Few months ago I spent a Saturday morning making a new mag latch for it out of REAL steel (carved it out of a half-inch bolt). Now it works. If you buy one of these stainless versions and you have trouble with MIM parts breaking, good luck. I'm now an expert at carving new latches out of bolts, so you can send it to me and I'll make you one--but not for less than about $1000...it wasn't much fun.--Leigh
