Spent a great day in the Olympic National Forest with family and a friend. Burned through ALOT of ammo. The SA 1911 is up to around 3000 rounds with absolutely no problems, the new Ruger P95 is at 500 rounds, same story: 0 failures. Did a lot of double and triple-tap training without hearing "Hey, that's uncontrolled rapid fire . . . you're off the range!"
Best part was my six-year old girl wanted to try shooting. Guns are such an everyday part of her life (because she sees me concealed carry every day and usually helps me by handing me stuff when I'm cleaning or tweaking) that I was kind of surprised. I was hesitant at first but then I remembered my dad, an immaculate Remington Nylon 66, and another six-year old out in a field in Western Kentucky quite some years ago. I didn't have a .22 with me so we settled down with the Ruger P95. After a good talk-thru I left her handle it (unloaded) and then we loaded it and with a little help from daddy she fired her first shot . . . about three feet high (target was a piece of aluminum sheeting about 2' x 2'). She braced herself, screwed up her courage and fired her second round . . . PLING! She was so excited (probably less excited than me, though) that I had to be careful to get the gun away from her so she could jump around!
Unless you're a daddy, this post may sound kinda weird but for me it was a big day!!!
