i have been wanting a .22lr pistol to shoot cans and ar stray ca#%, er uuh possums yeah thats it "possums" and so anyway i have been reading this and other forums on the internet and trying to find out what would be a good inexpensive pistol to buy that would be worth the money. i dont want a high dollar gun just to bang around with so i mostly was hearing a lot about the Walther and the Berreta Neos. mostly what i read about these two was not very encouraging,to be fair i did read some posts that were encouraging but mostly not, sooooo i decided to buy a Rough Rider buy Heritage Arms, yeehaw, it is a .22lr with a .22 magnum cylinder that comes with it . i havent had the chance to take it out yet to see what it does yet but hopefully for $160.00 including tax it will be worth it. anyway just wanted some opinions from others that may have experience with these, good or bad. its not a bad looking pistola either, not the prettiest ,fanciest looking thing but it will be perfect for what i want to use it for.heres a pic

Greeting's bluecowdawg-

NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE-

But if I were you, I would save my $160 and from time
to time put more with it; until such time that you
could conceiveably purchase a used Smith & Wesson
model 17, 18, or 617.

Reason? Not only much better quality firearm; but also
these gun's can be fired in either the SA (single action),
or DA (double action) mode. Neither of these weapon's
are chambered for the .22 WMR. In the Smith & Wesson
line, that would be the model 48 (blue or nickel), or the
model 648 in stainless steel. At one time, there were
various report's of a problem with stuck (fired) cases
in the 648. Supposedly, this problem was corrected;
but this particular model may be extremely hard to
find?

Also, in 1960 Smith & Wesson introduced a "Kit Gun"
aka: model 51 chambered in .22 WMR. In my many
year's being involved with S&W firearm's, I have NEVER
seen one! Subsquently, it was discontinued in 1974.

Best Wishes,

In my experience, you don't always get what you pay for, but you never get what you don't pay for.

Probably for 22 plinking you should get on fine ........ but as mentioned by Archie ...... easy on the 22 mags. I rather thought these a tad ''loose'' .... but OTOH .. I guess ''adequate''. I nearly picked one up last year but decided to hang on and get a Ruger Single Six ....... admittedly a fair bit more money but .... altogether a better gun.

Not rying to disappoint you with my comments .... just making observations .. and i am sure you'll still get a great deal of fun outa that. Hope so.:)
