Build a 1911 in CA

I'm looking to build my own 1911. I thought it might be fun just to see if I could do it. I'm having trouble though finding a frame that is legally for sale in California. I am not looking for an 80% frame, I want to have one via an FFL. Specifically, I am lookiing for a square trigger guard, full size frame. Does anyone have experience in purchasing a 1911 frame in California?

Good luck!
If you want something new then check the list:
http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/
I don't think you'll find any "frame only" guns on the list though (ha! ha!).
Sarcasm aside, if you're in SoCal, try calling Will's Gunsmithing - he specializes in 1911's and he might have a couple frames sitting around or be able to give you a source.
Will's # is (951) 371-4971. He is located in Corona.
Also, try Gunbroker.com and see if there are any Private Party Sellers in CA who have what you want for sale. Some of the gun forums, such as the 1911 forum or Calguns.net (if it's still up) might also be of some help.
I think your only option is to find a Private Party source whichever way you can, because California's silly gun laws pretty much limit what new stuff is allowed into the state.

You can't buy a new frame in California since it can't be submitted for function or drop testing. The only way to get a frame is to buy it in a PPT from another California resident.
Good luck, 1911 frames go for a premium out here.

Thanks for the info, I guess building a gun isn't going to be that simple.

If the frame is used on a pistol that is on the approved list contact California DOJ and see if repair parts (frames) can be imported. If not on the list it will have to have been made before 2000 and be for sale from a private party IIRC.
What do you have in mind for a frame? :)
