I am thinking about buying one of these. I only wish it had an 18" barrel. Has anybody out there had any experience with these rifles? Thanks.

I like mine. It's handy (for a semi-auto), and easy to shoot. Some people have complained about increased muzzle blast and noise, but I haven't found it to be an issue. An 18in barrel is often regarded as the ideal compromise, but I can't tell much difference between the two lengths (a friend got me hooked on FAL's with his 18in barrelled carbine).

IIRC you can order it from DSA with an 18" bbl.

Or, check Mark Graham at www.arizonaresponsesystems.com

He is the best FAL 'smith I know. I've had three of his FALs and have been well pleased with them all.

If you want to reduce muzzle blast, consider getting a plain muzzle with no muzzle brake. It'll recoil a little more, but it'll make considerably less noise.

I have an 18" with DSA's 3-hole brake, and it is LOUD.

Zak,
That's not a bad idea. I wasn't aware that you could specify different barrel lengths and muzzle brakes. I know you can get
different receiver configurations.

I would also recommend that you at least look at the guns from ARS before spending the money for a DSA. Mark will build ANY configuration you can legally own, and his work is top notch. It is my opinion that they are more rifle for the money.

Also take a look at http://www.vandenbergcustom.com/. It is my opinion that the Vandenberg guns are the ultimate of the FAL type. They are costly when you let him trick them out totally, but worth every penny.

George Gouger (DoubleG Gunsmithing?) also has a very good reputation, but have not personally seen his work.
