What's considered middle the road to higher brand of 9mm ammo?

I'm just curious what brand of ammo is considered middle of the road to higher for a 9mm handgun (P226)? I hear most people talk about Winchester White Box and Remington UMC as being the cheapest so I guess they are below the middle of the road. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Don't confuse price with quality. You don't necessarily get lesser quality with lower price. FMJ ammo is less expensive as its made in much large quantities than defensive hollow points. The components are less expensive to manufacture and the military used FMJ.

The Russian steel case ammo and other select former Communist Block ammo is probably a little substandard when compared to any American ammo manufacturer. While I've found Wolf and Silver Bear to be relaible I've also found a few "light" loads in the couple cases I've shot. Never had any problem with S&B, PMC or Fiocci.

Don't knock Remington UMC. I find that their .38 spl ammo is great in my Smith and Wesson. Accurate, clean, nicely made, reliable, and not very expensive. I love the stuff.

I don't understand the question.
What kind of shooting do/will you do?
How often do/will you shoot?
What are your expectations?

Well, this started when I sent an email to Sig asking what they recommend for ammo, and they replied as follows:

"We recommend NATO and SAAMI Mil. spec approved ammo. Without naming specific brands, I would say middle of the road or higher. You really get what you pay for with ammo. Stay away from Winchester White Box. "

So, that's why I asked the question for what is considered middle to higher. Also, I'll be just doing target practice shooting. I'm rather a new hand gun owner so I don't have a lot of experience, in case anyone is wondering.

I would consider WWB to be lower middle of the road, I shoot hundreds of rounds a month (300-400) in IDPA using WWB or Remington UMC depending on what I can get the cheapest. Speer also makes some middle range loads cost wise. I really like Blackhills, although upper mid priced, their reloads shoot excellent.

Browningguy is correct IMO. The WWB and UMC "yellow brick" are decent for plinking/range fodder...its boxer and reloadable if your tastes turn that way. I shoot a 92FS and have no real worries as its a pretty solid platform. I wouldn't blink twice as far as running the same ammo through a Sig...just as solid and a bit more accurate than the 92, IMO. I also shoot Wolf and some Silver Bear out of mine...but I would stay with US and perhaps Western European manuf. surplus...Also Winchester has some +P frangible floating around that was some kind of over-run or such and I absolutely love this stuff...scary accurate out of the 92.

This is just my opinion, but I would say that Rem UMC and Fed. American Eagle, Mag Tech blue box (made in brazil) are middle of the road stuff.

I have been told/read to stay away from WWB also but other swear by it so I don't know what to say. Since Sig told you to stay way, that is what I would do. It is not that much cheaper anyway.

The low level stuff is probably wolf (although some love it) and other brands named in the post.

Just my opinion.
