Is it legal to own AP ammo. I see some on web sites as components for sale and I wonder about the legality of this.

I saw an interesting cartridge on Garrett's website. (www.garrettcartridges.com/products.asp) A .45-70 500gr tungsten solid @1530 fps.

$9.00 a round!

I hope it's legal. I've got most of a case of Soviet surplus 7.62x39 that was ruled AP some years ago.

Well, a steel core SS109 5.56 is armor piercing... quite legal.

Still, just in case I ever got into the creek without a proverbial paddle, I wouldn't be loading something in my primary defensive weapon that came in a box or was advertised as:

:) :D :neener: :what: !! "Armor Piercing" !!:neener: :what: :) :D

Tidbit: A local instructor and Police advisor told me this once... "Find out what local police or law enforcement use for their standard issue and carry that, as long as it is effective. If you ever get into a legal battle as a result of a shooting and are questioned as to why you used 'that evil round' you can say you used on recommendation of local LEO authorities."

(the as 'long as it is effectiive' portion of that was later clarified siting that NYPD used to carry 115 fmj... which had a bad tendency to bust through apartment walls)
