I'm going to buy an AR 15 soon and will be reloading 223. I will be using it mostly for target shooting. I was wondering what your favorite bullet and powder is for target 223 loads. Thanks in advance.

If it's a 1 in 8 or 9 twist the 69 Seirra over 25.3 g Varget with a Rem 7-1/2 primer, should do you well.
60g V-Max over 26g Varget works good too.

I use various bullets, depending on purpose, but use surplus WC844 as the powder.

mc223 do you have a load for 55 gr in for a 20" 1 in 9 twist in an AR? I am currently using 23 gr of 2200 but when that is gone I'll have to find another powder.

Right now I'm using in a 20" 1-7" twist service rifle barrel:
200/300 yard line: 77gr Nosler BTHP, 24.0gr RL15, CCI BR4 primer, and LC brass
600 yard line: 80gr Sierra Match King, 24.0gr RL15, CCI BR4 primer, and Lapua brass.
Though, I'm going to switch to Berger 80gr VLDs since the price on Sierra 80gr is pretty much the same now.
If you want an MK262 mod 1 duplicate, try:
77gr Sierra Match King, 25.3gr Varget, CCI 400 primer, and LC brass - NOTE: THIS LOAD EXCEEDS SAAMI SPECS. USE IN NATO OR WYLDE CHAMBER ONLY. USE AT OWN RISK. - 2780~ fps in an 18" SPR barrel
FYI: Nosler 77gr will shoot a little faster than Sierra 77gr with the same powder charge. It is probably due to the fact that the Nosler has a shorter base to ogive length and thus has less bearing surface with the bore.

Sorry I left out a couple of things. I am looking at a RRA 16" Chrome Lined 1:9 twist with 2 stage match trigger. The matches they have at the club I belong to are 200 and 300 yard and rattle battle.

I've never loaded for 1 in 9", but you could try 69gr Sierra Match Kings or Noslers Competition, Hornady 75gr BTHP, and 73gr Berger BTHP.

We were at the range 2 weeks ago with a friend who is trying out a second hand Bushmaster 1 in 9" twist with a ss barrel, 19 inch if I remember correctly. He borrowed 10 of my 52 grain A-Max Hornadys and put 2ea, 1.5" - 5 rnd groups on a bullseye at 200 yds from a sand bag. I had loaded 23.5 gr of H335 under the A-Max for my Remington 700 VSL 26" bbl with 1 in 12" twist. I am now loading another 100 rounds for him to use.

This is what I use in my Savage Mdl 11, its no AR, but accuracy is great. If I do my part, 1 ragged hole at 100yrds (longest range in the area).
55grn FMJ (winchester IIRC) 22.5gns of AA 2015BR with winchester standard small rifle primer.

25.0gr of H-335, CCI mag primers under 55gr FMJ's for range ammo. Meters great out of a Lee Autodisc set up.

My 1/9" RRA carbine shot Black Hills 75 Blue box very well and in other guns I've had good luck with it. My duplicate load is (work up in your gun) a near max charge of TAC or Varget with Fed205M , CCI BR 4, or CCI 450 primers. Even my carbines would get near MOA or maybe a little better with something in that area. You'll have to play around with it to see what your gun likes best.

Well I went and bought the AR tonight. It's a RRA. Thanks for all of your help and load information, it is greatly appreciated. Here is a link to a few pictures of the new toy. I will update as I start to reload for this caliber.
